OBAMA AD CRITICIZED FOR EQUATING LIMBAUGH AND MCCAIN

Rate this Entry

ABC's Jake Tapper takes the Obama campaign to task for its latest Spanish language ad. The gist of the piece is that McCain is not nearly as anti-immigration as the right wing radio host. The article admits that McCain has flip-flopped on immigration reform, but that his positions aren't as extreme as his party.

I'm not sure I agree with Tapper since McCain has been courting the Limbaughs and the anti-immigrant wing of his party. My personal view is that Obama just needs to keep reminding Hispanic voters that McCain walked away from him when the heat was turned up.  But even if he's right, there's no need to try and link McCain to wackos on the right to make this point.

I agree with Greg but the Obama camp is not taking any votes for granted and want to make sure that the other camp is not able to steel any Hispanic votes. Given the amount of pain that the immigration debate has caused to Hispanic community, its a a political weapon that they have at their disposal. As they say in love an war all weapons are valid, same thing the republicans did with the swift boat attacks on John Kerry fair or not there they were. Is a good thing that finally the dems who try to be politically correct all the time and try taking the so call high ground, at some point the gloves have to come off.

The Ad is talking about the Republicans and it's two faces --- which is true. Immigrants cannot trust Mccain anymore after backing-out from his own CIR.

If McCain is the President, the simple solution is to take the agenda from his website, pass the agenda and send it to him for signature.

McCain thought he could have it both ways (Latino votes + extreme right wing votes) by delaying the decision on amnesty beyond the elections with an enforcement first approach. The Senator who co-drafted the 2006/2007 CIR bills hardly talks about it anymore (and for good reason).

Time to pick your poison Johnnie boy!

There are 4 types of people as far as immigration is concerned here in the US

    (1) Lou Dobbs, Tancredo, Glenn Beck & Limbaugh. Out right call Hispanics names.

    (2) A segment of General public, Which really believes that borders & national security are important and supports legal immigration and wants illegals to get to the back of the line.

    (3) The dangerous segment of the public is which acts as if they are the ones described in (2) but actually idolize folks in (1)

    (4) Lastly, left wing ultra liberals like Kennedy & Obama.

Personal experience with Kennedy's office. Met with a staffer and explained the EB issues. She goes on to say, you guys drive Accords, BMW's and live in posh apartments/homes. Looks at those janitors/other folks and how worse their situation is.

I was pretty pissed at that response.

Did one of the senate bills provided a path to citizenship in 5 years? Thats what I remember I could be wrong though. But here we are 10 years in the country and no end in sight with EB GC.

GOP does not have any other alternative than McCain. Put GOP in the hands of the Baptist minister from Ark or the CEO from North East, toast!

Did McCain wanted it both ways? Yes! he did, because he is probably the only smart guy in GOP. If any of you are thinking that most DEMS (white) love Hispanics/non white folks and do not insult behind them, must be smoking some thing good.

The only diff is GOP has a lot of them and Dems have fewer than GOP. Its all votes and votes for Dems/GOP.
