GOP POLITICIANS TIED TO ILLEGALLY PRESENT IMMIGRANTS

Rate this Entry

Many politicians have had to face scrutiny over the years when it was learned they hired illegally present immigrants. But it's unusual for two of these controversies to arise on the same day.

GOP Senator Gorton Smith of Oregon (who is running for reelection in a tough race in November), has been accused by a Willamette, Oregon newspaper of employing illegally present immigrants in his family-owned frozen food company.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Governor of California, admitted that he has not checked the immigration status of people who have worked at his home. Schwarzenegger's own immigration history is mysterious and there is a strong possibility he was himself illegally present in the US during his early years in this country.

    Interesting. Never heard that before.

Jack, that came up shortly before his election as governor. I think the San Jose Mercury newspaper picked that up.
Apparently, in his autobiography, he stated that he worked in a gym in the 70ies, when he was here as visitor.
Of course, laws were different then, but even then, visitors probably weren't allowed to work.
Of course, his marriage to Maria Shriver made that irrelevant.

Here is an article from Greg from 2004 about it:

Thanks for the link, JoeF. From that link it sounds like it was more an issue of employment, not presence. I think if he had entered illegally it would have gotten much more publicity. Less if he'd overstayed a visa. I think the technicality of employment rules keeps that from becoming as big of an issue. Lowest on the list has to be contractor licensing which is widely ignored although California put teeth in the law a few years ago.

Typical GOP hypocrisy. First let us take the instance of family values. After the Bristol Palin affair (literally and figuratively), I have decided this is the white GOP definition of immoraliaty: unmarried white male having sex with unmarried white female is not immoral as both of them belong to the same race. Unmarried white individual having sex with white married person of the opposite sex is not immoral for the same reason as above. However, if Bristol Palin's boyfriend was black all hell would have broken loose and Palin would step down. If the boyfriend was illegal alien of the wrong color Tancredo, Bibray and others would talk about amending the constitution to deny citizenship to the baby even when one parent is a US citizen.

Then we have working mothers. Four or five months ago Phyllis Schaffly wrote a piece asking mothers to stop working and return to homemaking. Now with Palin it is all forgotten. Beverly and Tim LeHaye of the Concerned Women of America wrote books condemning working mothers. Now they say that Palin is the greatest thing since the first coming of Christ. Of course that new rule is for GOP working mothers only!

The GOP says that it is against abortion but wants to deny citizenship to children of illegals. Will they get them abortion instead. Perhaps not. They want the baby to go into the shadows and disappear and suffer in real life after they protect its life when it is unborn...typical GOP.

So, why is anyone surprised that GOP politicians employed illegals? Can anyone tell me?
