WHERE ARE ALL THOSE US FARM WORKERS, MR. DOBBS?

Rate this Entry

As the recession in the US drags on, the unemployment rate is creeping up. There should be thousands and thousands of Americans looking for jobs. Yet the labor shortage on America's farms remains severe and at a time when Americans are facing dramatic inflation in the cost of food due to rising fuel costs, we're shooting ourselves in our collective feet when we make costs go even higher by scaring off workers.

Does anyone with any sense of reality actually believe there are US workers who want these jobs?

The Looser Lou would say that we need to pay higher wages to attract American workers. However, the Feds would say that it would lead to wage price spiral and stagflation and they would start raising the interest rates, leading to even deeper recession and higher unemployment. Typical Lou Dobbs vision for America..and perhaps the vision of FAIR and CIS and the founder of the two organizations is an opthalmologist who is himself blind.

One more thing: As for me, I have stopped shopping for US products in Safeway and Giant..cant afford it anymore. I go to Shoppers or Korean Market both of whom import food products from abroad including Mexico and Argentina. Perhaps Jessica Vaughan and Heather MacDonald can give Safeway and Giant business!

Unfortunately the hypocrisy of our society will never reconcile the Immigration/ Economics debate in our country.
