Greg Siskind on Immigration Law and Policy

IS CIS REALLY NON-PARTISAN?

Rate this Entry

On the web site of the anti-immigration Center for Immigration Studies, the organization's mission is listed prominently:

The Center
for Immigration Studies is an independent, non-partisan, non-profit research
organization founded in 1985. It is the nation's only think tank devoted
exclusively to research and policy analysis of the economic, social, demographic,
fiscal, and other impacts of immigration on the United States.

So why is CIS Executive Director Mark Krikorian openly pushing for GOP candidates in his National Review contributions. I follow local politics here in Memphis and last night there was a major upset where a Democrat won what should have been one of the safest Republican seats in the country. In reading news coverage of the meaning of the race, I found this statement from Mr. Krikorian at the National Review web site:

We Are Totally Frakked   [Mark Krikorian]

If the GOP can't hold on to a House seat in the Deep South that Bush won by 25 points, it's going to be 1974 all over again. I'm just hoping that Rahm Emanuel
has recruited enough pro-sovereignty, Heath Shuler-style Dems so that
we can head off amnesty. But even if that happens, next year is going
to be bad on taxes and other issues.

Does this sound non-partisan to you? The use of the word "we" (twice) sure makes it sound like CIS is openly siding with the GOP. Lest you think this is just Mr. Krikorian's private opinion, he has an email link that goes to his CIS.org email address. And given the topic of the post is immigration, any argument that Mr. Krikorian is not speaking for CIS rings very hollow.

Now I'm no expert on non-profit law, but I always understood that promoting political candidates was absolutely taboo and could jeopardize your non-profit status. And it looks like my understanding is correct according to the gurus at nonprofitexpert.com:

Political Campaign Activity

Under the Internal Revenue Code, all section 501(c)(3) organizations are absolutely prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in, or intervening in, any        political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for elective public office.  Contributions to political campaign funds or public statements of position (verbal or written) made on behalf of the organization in favor of or in opposition to any candidate for public office clearly violate the prohibition against political campaign activity.  Violation of this prohibition may result in denial or revocation of tax-exempt status and the imposition of certain excise tax.

I'm just saying....

Dont know whether Mark Kirkorian is a partisan or not, but he is a RACIST who wants to preserve a white American majority. Four reasons:

    1. Gives lip service to training Americans..so why is he not raising hell over huge education and training budget cuts in CA?

    2. Gives lip service to preserving jobs for Americans..so why did n't he protest with the Northwest mechanics two years ago when they walked the picket line against outsourcing of jobs?

    3. Gives lip service to higher wage for Americans...so why didn't he not convince Tancredo to support minimum wage increases?

    4. No complaints about mostly white foreign actors displacing American in Hollywood..only problem for him is if non-whites displace Americans as in the case of the Filipina nurses or Indian computer programmers. Kirkorian would rather have the doctor salary double and insurance drop the health care coverage of our seniors rather than import another non-white into the country.

So the question should be whether he is a racist or not. Based on evidence, MARK KIRKORIAN IS A RACIST..ONLY THING HE HAS NOT DONE THAT I AM AWARE OF IS THAT HE HAS NOT YET DRESSED UP IN HOOD AND SHEET OR GOOSE STEPPED TAKING A NAZI SALUTE. HE IS A CLOSET RACIST BUT HE IS NOT FOOLING ME. I rest my case.

Is there a way to get them off the tax-exempt status? There is gotta be.

Non-Partisan, I think not. Non-profit, perhaps........ In so far as CIS being a "Think Tank", the question would be for who.How CIS can operate as they do is shameful.

For John Tanton, "The puppeteer" of-course.

It appears that all these anti-immigration groups including FAIR, NumbersUSA and CIS are fostered by this bitter venal man.

I enjoy reading George Crell's comments. Again here he is so correct--the two-faced CIS types cry "American workers" and then fail to help American workers.

Greg has once again exposed anti-immgrants cloaked in purportedly fair-minded sheep's clothing. Indeed, CIS is FAIR-minded. Concerning another anti-immigrant Greg recently exposed, this one pretending to be an unbiased journalist, Mr. Dobbs, I found it ironic that while Mr. Dobbs appears on CNN broadcast in China as usual, I discovered one cannot access Greg's blog from China. That is, Lou is on, but Greg is banned in China.

    It is George Chell. Thanks

America Coming Together, various ministers and People for the American Way executives have often done the same thing at no risk to their tax status.
They have to do it almost on their own letterhead and out of their offices for electioneering to matter because officers of an organization are nto the organization, especially when they speak as individuals.

That might be the case if Krikorian did not associate himself with CIS when he posts at NRO. But here's a typical example showing he makes no such distinction:
