PROPOSED RULE TO EXTEND TN VISAS TO THREE YEARS COMING SOON

Rate this Entry

The Office of Management and Budget has cleared a proposed USCIS rule to allow TN visa holders to stay in the US for three years instead of the current one year limit. That's great news for Canadians and Mexicans who use this professional worker visa.

That's so-so news. How about getting rid of the Schedule 2 list of professions and making the TN available to specialty occupations, and allowing combinations of education/experience?

This was announced by the White House way back in its August 10, 2007 announcement on the 26 Initiatives. See the WH website. And with respect to the comment by "fb", if you can get Canada and Mexico to just let us amend the TN Annex unilaterally then we might be able to do something about that.

It has nothing to do with amending the treaty and everything to do with how the DHS interprets and implements the treaty.
