FOUR IMMIGRATION BILLS SET TO ADVANCE ON WEDNESDAY

Rate this Entry

The House Judiciary Committee is set to markup four immigration bills on Wednesday. None of the bills are particularly controversial, though movement on the measures is seen as important because if the bills advance, they would be the first pro-immigration ones to pass since the Democrats took control of Congress 15 months ago.

The bills to watch are the following:

HR 5570, The "Religious Worker Visa Extension Act of 2008";

HR 5060, a bill to allow athletes admitted in the P-1 category to renew their visas beyond the current ten year limit;

HR 5569, a bill extending for five years the EB-5 regional center pilot program; and

HR 5571, to extend the Conrad 30 J-1 physician waiver program for five more years.

    Would like to see how Heath Shuler votes on these bills. After all he keeps saying that he is only against illegal immigration.

    Wow! God knows we need more religious workers...

    Nothing on the extension of the 245(I)?

    Religion has become a business.

    Talking about religious workers, we also really dont need foreign actors and about 5,000 visas I believe H1Bs go to foreign actors who also compete for permanent residence. 20% of the movie industry is made up of foreign actors, compared to only 7% of the computer programmers. There is far higher unemployment among aspiring American actors than in the computer industry. Yet, you will see racists such as Kirkorian and Stein and their respective racist organizations CIS and FAIR will never make this an issue. Why? Foreign actors such as Sturgess unemploy Asian Americans by taking roles in movies such as 21 (the story is based on mostly Asian Americans) because these foreign actors happen to be white. As long as foreignwhites unemploy Americans of any color it is ok with Stein and Kirkorian..you wont hear a word from them about the movie 21. However, let a non-white foreigner unemploy an American, particularly a white, they will raise hell. Similarly they dont care if jobs go abroad. Did not see them protesting with the Northwest Airlines mechanics barely two and a half years ago or when programmer jobs go abroad, but let a non-white person move in to take the job here in the US, they will raise hell. The issue is permanent residence. They are afraid that a non-white person would move into the country and take up PR adding one more non-white person to the population of America. That is their main fear, not the unemployment of Americans.

    George - I know foreign actors get you all riled up, but they don't use the H-1B category. They use the O-1 and it's very, very difficult to get those cases approved.

    At this point any little good progress on immigration is good news for whoever gets the help, there are a lot of good people out there that need help, so good for them.

    Lets hope for the best. Hope the CIR politicians not hold it hostage.

    Foreign actors dont get me riled up. I believe it should be a free market based on demand and supply just like anywhere else. It is the FAIR and CIS and their racial double standards that rile me up. O1 or H1B (I take your word as correct) is a mute point. Twenty percent of the acting workforce is foreign born and yet Kirkorian harps about 5-8% of the programmers who are foreign born and does not say anything about foreign actors. Only reason I can think is that these actors are white and programmers are Asian. Let a few Indian actors from Bollywood in, I bet you Kirkorian will be raising hell about American actors being displaced. Stein would do the same thing.

    You mean racists such as Marsha Blackburn and Marilyn Musgrove, and not so bright people like Heath Shuler?

    Popular Hindi movie star Ash Rai keeps (was) talking about forthcoming Hollywood movie, talking Hollywood by storm but not much came out of it. Maybe I am wrong, George Chell seem to know more about actor. He can fill us in.

    The country does not require more nurses to work at assisted living centers & nursing facilties for the baby boomers. How about getting the Schedule A recapture passed or work on getting a comprehensive healthcare immigration bill. Why does any talk about immigration bring the illegals to the forefront. First fix the system for people who are legally here & waiting patiently for years.

    And which one of these proposed bills is about illegal immigration? I think you are a little bit lost. Well, maybe, not a little.

    Really? Why? Governor Richard Lamm once said that if we restrict medical personnel immigration, seniors will die off and we will save on social security. Is that the reason?

    I think Ash Rai is in a Hollywood movie (cant recall which one) but they shot the scenes in Canada to avoid US immigration rules. Of course allow about twenty Indian actors in, Kirkorian will raise hell. Then again he may think they are white..many of those actors do look white..so he may not be able to tell the difference and neither would the American audience. Ditto for Turkish or Lebanese female actors.

    Thanks. I think there are some CIR fanatics who may try to derail these bills. However, I think the chances of derailment are higher in the Senate.

    George, b thinks that Sen. Kennedy is one of those fanatics. He thinks Kennedy is "anti-legal-immigrant". Quite delusional.
