FOREIGN ACTORS SWEEP THE OSCARS

Rating: 2 votes, 5.00 average.

Well, Lou Dobbs will probably call on a boycott of movies. But if there was ever a testament to the fact that Americans are not insular and xenophobic, it's the fact that the most American of institutions - Hollywood - reflects the globalization of this country. I'm not a film historian, but I don't believe there has ever been another year when the winners of Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress all went to foreign performers. Here are international recipients of this year's Academy Awards:

Javier Bardem - Spain - Best Supporting Actor - No Country for Old Men
Alexandra Byrne - UK - Costume Design - The Golden Age
Dante Ferretti and Francesca Lo Schiavo - Italy - Art Direction - Sweeney Todd
Didier Lavergne - France - and Jan Archibald - UK - Makeup - La Vie en Rose
Philippe Pollet-Villard - France - Live Action Short Film - Le Mozart des Pickpockets
Suzie Templeton and Hugh Welshman - UK - Animated Short Film - Peter and the Wolf
Stefan Ruzowitzky - Austria - Best Foreign Language Film - The Counterfeiters
Tilda Swinton - UK - Best Supporting Actress - Michael Clayton
Marion Cotillard - France - Best Actress - La Vie en Rose
Glenn Hansard - Ireland and Marketa Irglova - Czech - Best Song - Once
Dario Marianelli - Italy - Best Score - Atonement
Daniel Day-Lewis - UK - Best Actor - There Will Be Blood

[Update: I learned this morning that a foreign sweep of the actors categories happened in 1964. Live and learn].

Not to take away from the party..but strange is n't it...organizations such as CIS or FAIR do not make an issue of foreign actors (almost 99% white) taking jobs from American actors many of whom are living on the streets of Hollywood trying to break in..while they make a big deal of 30,000 computer programmers (most of whom are Indians or Chinese)..pray what can I attribute to that indifference to?

What else would you expect from John Tanton spawned hate-groups? It's scary that everytime a news article appears about immigration, there's inevitably a quote from that joker Krikorian or someone from FAIR or NumbersUSA.

Its a globalized world in the 21 century and the movie industry is part of that world this clearly reflects that. Good actors all of them.

No issue there. Just to point out the racism of FAIR and CIS.

Jay Leno made a comment yesterday that Lou Dobbs would now want to build a wall around Hollywood as foreign actors are displacing Americans. I am afraid he would if increasing number of Indian and Chinese actors show up and win oscars.
