OBAMA GETS ENDORSEMENT OF PRO-IMMIGRATION UNION

Rate this Entry

The Service Employees International Union, the upstart union known nationally for attracting Latino members in service professions, is poised to endorse Barack Obama for President. The endorsement is expected to be a major blow to the Clinton campaign which has been heavily banking on strong Hispanic support. SEIU has been the most pro-immigration of the national unions and it's immigration positions are credited with helping it make inroads in organizing the country's Hispanic workforce.

I just created a page about their pro-immigration activities at my name's link. Among other things, they paid the salary for someone to do pro-immigration lobbying... at the same time as he serves on an advisory council to Mexico's president.

Hi Lonewacko - Completely unrelated question. Have you found MediaWiki easy to use? Zoho has a free package and I need to write an article soon for a bar association group on the topic. Thanks.

MW is not easy to configure. It's easy to use. Have someone else install it for you or use the auto-installer provided by your host.

This is Big but I think Hillary will have a strong showing in Texas. Never the less the race will just tighten more, if the Union can make good in roads for Obama in the Hispanic community that may just be what puts him over the top.
  6. why are hispanics voting for hillary?'s Avatar
    just wondering...
Obama is the most open about immigration reform, he is the only one to promise immigration reform and driver licenses to all in his first year in office.

seems to me hispanic are either unaware (hard to believe) or don't realy care all that much about immigration issues?

can anyone explain? I would really like to know, surely other citizens who are immigrants or have immigrant family members would like to know as well

I think the general consensus amongst pundits out there is that Hispanics trust known figures in politics and therefore they trust Bill Clinton which is very well respected in the Hispanic community. They see Hillary as a chance for Bill to get involved again and they trust him to help them out. I think if Obama wins they will stand behind him just because no Hispanic other than the Cubans in FLA will vote republican, specially since Mccain can't really fly his Immigration credentials amongst republicans to appeal to Hispanics.

You are so good at spinning the things, I live in L.A and I know the reason. It is very well known that hispanics generally dont get along very well with blacks and they dont want to vote for a black candidate.

I am not quite sure if unions are pro immigration. As far as I know they oppose the immigration as much as right wings nut jobs do.

That may be true for LA although I don't think you can generalize or put all Hispanics on that camp, but even if it were true I do not see Hispanics supporting a republican candidate v. supporting Obama if he is the democratic nominee. I agree Unions even though they are full of Immigrants they are not for Immigration.

It would be very stupid for the Hispanic community to complain about racism in the immigration debate and then appearing racist themselves by not been able to support Obama because he is black.
