ADD MINNESOTA TO LIST OF STATES PUSHING TO YANK BUSINESS LICENSES OF EMPLOYERS OF UNAUTHORIZED IMMIGRANTS

The interesting twist here is that the governor is trying to get a lot of his immigration proposals done via executive order as opposed to a bill passing in the legislature. There are measures that are not likely to pass constitutional muster in Governor Pawlenty's proposal and a hostile state legislature is likely to be a roadblock toward passage of parts of the measure.

Here is a good story on how these type of laws are working out for Oklahoma so far:

    http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2008-01-09-immigcover_N.htm

You have to love this quote from the article:

Republican state Rep. Shane Jett, who opposed 1804, offers a more dire prediction. Without changes, the law "will be the single most destructive economic disaster since the Dust Bowl," he says.

It should be interesting to see what happens I all these states. With a recession looming for the US economy and this added economic pressure on businesses across the nation. Only time will tell what works best to be an assimilating society or to be an isolationist society either way there is going to be some economic pain while we find out.

On a sadistic note : Somehow I feel like there should be more and more states that adopt these kind of provisions .....Cheer them on

Only when they see the full impact of such foolhardy provisions will they realize the criticality of the issue and the need to deal with it at the national level with a level headed, cool minded non-xenophobic way

If it is illegal to hire illegal immigrants, what it is wrong of punishing those who violates the law? Illegal immigrants came in illegally right? I am an immigrant on the long waiting list of green card but we came in legally and paying our dues and all of that stuff.

Now if we go through a lot of problems (higher prices for cabbage!, etc) when all illegal immigrants are no longer here doing those jobs then maybe the government will allow all of these laws that will make worker without advance degrees to come in legally with lesser restrictions. Atleast in this case everything was done on lawful manner.

Just my 2 cents I hope you guys will not burn me on this.

    Thanks.

Dude, this discussion is like beating a dead horse in this blog there has been countless hours of blogging on this issues that you bring up. I suggest you research it, read on it a bunch and then you will have an educated opinion on this subject. Its hard for people here to answer the same postings over and over and over. I doubt that anyone else will answer your posting for this same reason.

This plan from Minnesota makes me miss former Senator Paul Wellstone. He was a true champion for immigrants in the Twin Cities. We'll miss him always...

I never claimed that it was dead I know is very much alive but rather than me taking someone to school on they better read up on it to have an educated opinion on this matter. There are thousands of postings on Greg's blog alone about the whole Illegal Immigrant v. Legal Immigrant. At the end of the day all immigrants are pretty much on the same boat when it comes to Immigration reform In the US congres they will noit fix one with out ficing the other and that is the reality today not my opinion.

    "ficing" meant fixing
