LA TIMES: PASS THE TRAVEL PROMOTION ACT OF 2007

Rate this Entry

The LA Times ran an important editorial over the weekend urging Congress to pass the Travel Promotion Act of 2007 which seeks to fund a nonprofit corporation to promote tourism to the US and explain entry procedures. It doesn't actually solve the slew of problems with the entry procedures themselves, but it is a place to start. Hopefully, this bill will pass and then momentum will build to address some of the more serious obstacles created by US government agencies that fail to realize that their mission is not to make America a giant fortress.

Congress would do well to remember this quote from St. Augustine:

It seems Divorce has outpaced population growth in damaging the environment. Wonder what the psuedo-environmentalists at NumbersUSA who oppose immigration - due to supposedly environmental reasons - have to say about it?

    Ban divorce?!

Liu said that with the number of divorces rising, so is the number of households, outpacing population growth itself.

According to the U Chicago economist Steven Levitt, co-author of "Freakonomics", there is very little correlation between divorce and child's chances of success. According to him, the factors that matter most are decided even before the child is born, like level of education of the parents, income, number of books at home, whether the child was adopted or not, etc.

I just read the full article on the environmental impact of a divorce. The last quote sums it up -
"I can't imagine anyone would ever tell you they would stay together for the sake of the environment. That would not be at the top of my list."

Imagine someone deciding not to get divorced from a cheating spouse in order to save the environment. Laughable.
