RICHARD NADLER: THE ANTI-DEPORTATIONIST BACKLASH

Rate this Entry

Richard Nadler's essay in the Wall Street Journal echoes a theme I've been stressing and that is that politicians who run from the little anti-immigrant wave risk getting drowned in the pro-immigration tsunami that is part the nation's Hispanic vote.

Hi Greg, Hope you are enjoying Singapore. Whenever you get a chance to blog (and post your Immigrant of the Day column) here is another newly minted Nobel prize winner and another immigrant:

On a personal note, while in college I took a course that Dr. Maskin taught. I am thrilled to have been taught by a Nobel Prize winner. :-)

The liberal media seems to be in full swing. TechDirt makes a case for immigration by saying its good for innovation. But blocking H1B's helps drive wages for the short term(10-15 years). You know what? I am perfectly fine with that, I want to retire in 10 years and I need all the money I can get NOW!

Patrick, according to economic theory, public policy should be made such that there is a net benefit to society - which in this case includes s/w engineers as well as s/w consumers. If there is a net benefit to the U.S. economy by driving wages of s/w engineers up (a private benefit) by reducing the number of H-1B's for the IT industry, then H-1B's should be blocked. You and I both know that is not true since there are 250 million s/w users and less than 10 million s/w engineers. Even if you want to retire in 10 years and want to make as much as you can now, you should really not use it as an argument for blocking H-1B visas. It weakens your case.

PG is running this absolutely ridiculous poll
you get to to choose between "IEEE position which is apparently- No preference for Citizens in jobs" and "oppose green card increase"

this is their way of misleading people. when an organization makes a poll like this (that too against erstwhile friends like IEEE) you know they have nothing left to say. please help vote YES to make it even more ridiculous.

I have seen that poll too...Its like saying you have to either Agree with Tom Tancredo or Dennis Kusinich... No Wonder Joe Liberman won in Connecticut despite all these daily kos bruhaha

    Roy,

Good that you quit that organization.
