IMMIGRANT OF THE DAY: JACQUELINE MUREKATETE - HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVIST

Rate this Entry

One of my colleagues heard Ms. Murekatete speak last week in Memphis and highly suggested including her in the blog. Ms. Murekatete is a young woman who survived the genocide in Rwanda and now is devoting her life to educating the world about what happened in her land and why the US needs to stop similar tragedies in other countries. Her story is painful to hear, but certainly a wake up call for listeners. Check out Ms. Muraketete's web site to see what her organization is doing to heal the world.

Could you please write about the hypocrisy of CNN to once again turn the plight of us high skilled immigrants waiting in line into a typical H1B bashing free-for-all festival.

They claim that our rally was to increase H1Bs. Is this a systematic effort by CNN to propagandize the Dobbs hate doctrine?

Greg, this is probably not in the national news, but is making big news here in TX. TX is home to Irving, the city that deports more people then any other city in the US. Apparently they have been using the Criminal Alien Program to arrest people for minor issues, then using the Criminal Alien Program to identify their status and then deporting them. The reason this is now big news is because there have been increasing number of complaints that Irving police is racial profiling just for the purpose of deporting. I live in the city next to Irving and have verified through friends that this actually is true. There's a major rally today to speak out against this program. Hispanics make up 50% of this city and are now leaving in great numbers.

I am all for deporting criminal aliens, but when a city arrests and deports you for simply forgetting your license at home, or one lady's example, getting into an accident and not having a license, it's a completely different issue. This is why most hispanics in this city would not even report crimes anymore because they are afraid they will be asked about their status.
