ARIZONA UNIVERSITY SEEKS OUT PRIVATE DONATIONS TO FUND UNDOCUMENTED STUDENTS

Rate this Entry

While Americans as a whole don't always do the right thing, in every age, numerous individuals have stepped forward to help those in need. In this case, private donors in Arizona are helping to underwrite tuition costs for unlawfully present immigrants seeking to attend the state's universities. Some anti-immigrants will no doubt decry this gesture of decency, but I was impressed to at least see a quote from someone who said that the concept of an unlawfully present immigrant getting an American education was not anathema as long as taxpayers don't pay. I don't agree with this, but at least the typical venom was absent and the "deport the *!#$" reaction was absent.

This could be a nice gesture that could be use to show the benefits of dream Act and how immigrants could contribute as the have always done to the benefit of the US society. It is weird that happens in Arizona a State constantly in the headlines for anti-immigrant measures taken by its state government. I though that the only pro-immigration guy there was John McCain.
