    The German move appears to be limited to skilled jobs. Except for the distortions introduced by the country quotas, the US has a similar policy already for skilled labor via the employment based system.

    I suppose this move was easier for the Germans as allowing Eastern European EU workers raises fewer racial red flags. Well, at least they are being forthright about what they are doing compared to the US.

    Too little, too late... Well, I come from one of the beneficiary EE countries and I live in the US as do about 90 percent of my highly educated home-country friends. I don't hear those who stayed back express much interest in emigrating to countries like Germany - they all have well-paid jobs at Western companies in my home country. The people who need jobs there are the ones who either don't have the skills or the desire to find good jobs at home - I am not sure these are the folks Germany is targeting though..
