GUILIANI LAYS OUT MORE SPECIFICS ON HIS IMMIGRATION POSITION

Rate this Entry

Rudy wants to get tough on the border. Way to really take a risky position!

The more interesting items involve Guiliani's plans to inplant chips in the necks of immigrants to track their movements. Gotcha on that one, didn't I? :-)

But his ideas for tracking people are a little disconcerting. Are we headed toward this?

To his credit, Guiliani hasn't totally shed his pro-immigration past. But trying to court the rightwing has certainly meant he has to emphasize the red meat items.

Greg, if any one of the Republican candidates come out with the "implanting the chip" propasal, it would come as no surprise given the way they think of the undocumented. To them, the "illegals" are not humans, and since we have the chip technology to track our dogs and cat's, the "illegals" would be next. I would say the idea would first be bought up by Tancredo, if he has'nt already put this out there, followed by Romney.

This does not seem like a smart move given the fact that he does not really have a anti-immigrant record. Also I think he would need more the hispanic vote rather than the right-wing vote if he expects to win the election. He is going to lose one or the other group or maybe both.

    From the NYT article:

"Giuliani wants a tamperproof ID card that includes fingerprinting for everyone entering the country"

Seems like Mr. Giulianni should try the non-citizen line at the airport one time. Every non-resident alien gets fingerprinted already.

I don't believe an ID card is going to work if it is only for aliens. It's only going to work if every American, citizen or not has to carry it.

    Quote of the day:

Bloomberg, who may run for president himself, waded into the dispute this week. Asked Monday about the idea of New York as a sanctuary for illegal immigrants, he said, ''Let 'em come.''

''I can't think of any laboratory that shows better why you need a stream of immigrants than New York City,'' he added. ''I don't know what to tell anybody. If they don't believe that immigrants add a heck of a lot more than they cost, they just aren't looking at the numbers.''

No wonder he gave up his Republican affiliation.

TX, there is a good number of republicans out there who think only frozen embrios and gun owners have rights, and don't need to be tagged. Well, they would have tagged embrios, too, but those are too small.
