JOHN EDWARDS WEIGHS IN FAVORING H-1Bs

Rate this Entry

John Edwards, one of the leading Democratic contenders for the presidency, yesterday announced an ambitious agenda to promote America's competitiveness in technology.

Among the ideas he is promoting -

  • Make permanent the research and development tax credit.

  • Start a "New Energy Economy" Fund that would invest in
clean, renewable energy products and technologies and create 1 million
    jobs.

  • Institute a national policy to bring broadband Internet service to all U.S. homes and businesses by 2010.

  • Improve science and math education by investing more in
teacher pay and training and providing one year of public college
tuition for more than 2 million students.

Edwards also told the Silicon Valley Leadership Group that he supports H-1B visas, though he did not get in to specifics on how he might expand the program.
