IMMIGRATION VOICE TO HOLD DC RALLY ON SEPTEMBER 18TH

Rate this Entry

Immigration Voice, the grassroots immigrants rights organization, plans on holding a major rally in Washington on September 18th. The rally will focus on the antiquated employment green card system in the US and the need for legislation to address the situation.

Immigration Voice wants to do something as consequential as the flower
campaign and the San Jose rally but only this time, it will be much bigger and
much more consequential aimed at congressional action on visa backlogs and
broken system of high-skills immigration. We aim to resolve this issue but we
cannot do it alone and therefore it is imperative for every one, and by that we
mean EVERY ONE to show up. If you wanted to be a part of San Jose rally but
couldn't, then now is your chance to protest peacefully and fight for a fair
system and just process.

Always remember, we are in United States at
the invitation of our employers and our employers have filed our green card
petitions in order to retain us. It is only fair and only just to ask for a
system that achieves that objective without delays and without putting the
immigrants in probationary limbo for 6-12 years. And it is your obligation to
yourself and your family to stand up for your rights and ask congress to
legislate and fix the system so that it works the way it was originally intended
to work. Just ask a participant of San Jose rally of how proud and how satisfied
everyone was after the rally - not just due to impact - but just because they
have stood up and spoken up for their issue.

Immigration Voice will shortly announce the route, times and other details. You can find out more at  :

http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=90

The Flower Campaign and San Jose Rally were a great start. But IV has the ambitious goal of attracting 10,000 participants, a number that would make it probably the largest rally ever staged on behalf of employment-based immigration. Make it happen!

[UPDATE - Since this was posted, the rally date changed to the 18th and I've edited this post accordingly].

    Greg,

Thank you much for your support for immigration reform. Legal skilled immigrants need to highlight the problems we face, no one else can do it for us. let's make this a turning point in the fight for a rational and fair immigration system.

    Greg thanks for the support!

I feel that it's the right time when Legal Immigrants stand-up and tell the decision-maker what their issues are.

I will ask people like you, who understand the plight of legal immigrants and the issues in the system, to encourage people who are so far so hopeless that they don't even recognize that their issues are addressable, and they have a golden chance on September 13th. If legal immigrants want a solution to their problems, they need to gather on Sept 13 in this rally and tell the world that they exist and they are suffering from deficiencies in the system, and law-makers should listen to them and fix these deficiencies.

Greg, Thank you for all the support!

Nothing will ever change doing this sort of rally. Illegal did march all US protesting and widely been covered by all media, but nothing happened. People were more educated than before that making illegal to change their status is a disaster to Nation.

Now legal people want to change congress perception, and I think it will be the same as what happen to illegals fate. There is absolutely no way that congress will ever look at this issue at this present time as congress is poised not to hear anything regarding IMMIGRAION (legal or illegal). For this reason, I am not going to be in DC. Best of luck to those who think it will bring success.

I feel the same. This rally is a disaster to those who are old filers and from ROW. Most of the ROWs are EB2 and their dates are always current. Supporting this is to support other countries with highest immigrant populations. America is created to accept diverse immigration community and I am sure October Visa Bulletin will bring good news for people like EB2 and ROW. Supporting this is to cut the brach of tree that supports you to sit. Think twice before participating.

    yes wonderful.
    each one for themselves...
EB2 ROW- why do you care that the 2003 EB2 from a larger country still waits while you are "not discriminated against" by getting a quick green card. So much for the discrimination against you- HA! And what about your country men and women in EB3 ROW? Oh- but you don't care do you- you will be current in october. why even post on an immigration forum? your GC is imminent- go party- be "not discriminated"...be happy!
btw if you think most ROW's are EB2 think and think again...and better still do some research- if most were, they would be retrogressed today like their EB3 brethren. You view is so self centric it's not even funny. Mybe i should argue for diversity in professions (why not?), only 7% for anyone in tech..hey that would make me current...what about you?

As for the other argument that no one will listen...heard that before the flower campaign and San Jose rally too. Maybe nothing will happen. But by not doing anything, the result is a foregone conclusion. This is a different rally- no foreign flags, no "breaking laws argument", just a petition for fairness and due process.

Some how people think they are better because they are from countries with lesser immigrant pouplation I just dont get it. People who are struck in backlogs have contributed to the economy more than people who are not in terms of taxes and paying to social security etc. I am all for supporting this rally and I am planning to be there. Will something concrete come out of rally , no one knows until it happens. As far as diversity is concerned if some one from India is good enough to be a doctor , pharmacist or a java code writer as a temp. worker , he or she is good enough to be a permanent resident. No one is stopping from people from ROW getting an H1 visa or applying for green card.

Vulture saw food and called in all their community to grab it whatever way possible. Igoring all others who were also in need of food. This is whats happenning with H1B as majority of visas go to (I would not like to say the country name). Congress should set up the country limit in H1B as well as they do it in Green Card processing. Many lawyers might support them since there is a $$$ (big one). Congress should NEVER NEVER increase the Green Card visa limit as it hurts American Citizens. These so called "hi-tech" jobs can be outsourced as this is whats happenning, and I am sure Congress know about it or we will educate them.

i guess you support the outsourcing then, can't have it both ways. if you refuse to let workers in, jobs will go out. despite your name, that is exactly what you are.
as for any country getting visas or not- they are open to anyone and everyone with skills. india and China (there i said it) are 40% of the world's population (and that count includes the US population so probably 45% of the population outside the US), and then if you account for world population with skills and recalculate it may be a lot more. Now count English speakers and suddenly India alone may be 45%. So unless you are against Indians or Chinese or both, what's surprising about the visa distributions?
somehow your name tag seems a defensive action- amazing since you are so decidedly partisan in your views on the matter.

H1B visas are not supposed to be for affirmative action purposes. If someone is from India or China or Mexico all of them are equally eligible if they have a job offer. If someone wants to be a pharmacist it does not matter what country you are from you have to be qualified for that job period.

As far as congress setting up quotas on H1B .. They can do whatever they want to ..Crazy lawmakers like Durbin at positions of power anything is possible. Good luck with that plan.

Calling someone vulture because they are using the presented oppurtunity to make their lives better in a legal way , Shame on you. As far as I know that is not an american or christian value.

Their is no freedom of speech on IV

They pretend to be volunteers, working for free, but actually get perks from them.

They write up agenda, that they know sure to pass congress, and claim, the fame. Their slogan "only because of us, that it got passed in the congress. Therefore send us money".

my 2 cents: dont get fooled by the so called "non profits" in the United States. most of the core (use of the word core- to make it look like someone important) group of people dont even qualify for a greencard, because they dont have the skills, that the US is looking.

these core group of people actually, receive money, may be they dont call it pay, like car payment, etc.,. Rest of us are volunteers. Yes it is true, IV is run by us, the volunteers. We do the work and they get the money.

The fact of the matter is that the United States government is stealing years from peoples lives as they wait in limbo for the government to act - in any way! Antiquated system? That is putting it shockingly lightly.

Unlike some causes, the immigration movement truly needs all the help it can get. I know this one has passed, but anybody who feels strongly about this cause should try to show up at these rallies and show their support!
