OUTRAGEOUS! - USCIS SUSPENDS E-FILING FOR "MAINTENANCE" EXACTLY WHEN PEOPLE WILL NEED IT TOMORROW

Rate this Entry

This is one of the most outrageous examples of bad customer service - and a complete breach of good faith - that I've seen in quite some time at USCIS. Here is an announcement just posted at the USCIS web site:

Scheduled E-Filing System Outage

The
e-Filing System will be temporarily unavailable on Friday, July 27,
2007 from 3:00 PM EDT until 11:00 PM EDT for necessary maintenance.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

People are scrambling to file e-file I-140 cases before the end of the month in order to get July priority dates, something necessary to be able to file an adjustment case in August. Also, the I-140 fees increase substantially.

Funny, when USCIS announced which fees would be going up, the I-485, I-765, and I-131 were to stay the same until August 17th, BUT NOT THE I-140. I thought that was odd, but now it's starting to make sense. Is USCIS forcing people to file after the fees go up (and in the process harming people who are needing to e-file tomorrow? It certainly looks that way.

Scheduled maintenance? How hard is it to tell the IT guys to hold of a few days?

You are right..never heard any IT doing maintenance in day time. Even corporate networks that doesn't server any actual customers, it's either midnight or weekend.

I may be missing something here... but what's the big deal really? If it's just unavailable for 8 hours on the 27th, why not file before 3pm or the next day? As far as I know the deadline is until Aug 17th so there should be plenty of time.

If this is too minor issue and we complain, nobodys will take us serious, for real!

IMHO, Greg is absolutely right to be outraged! He is also doing it for ALL OF US who are dealing with the US immigration authorities and have to deal with the worsening (by the hour) customer service! This is an example of one of those "microinequities" that corporate behaviorists have written about recently. On the face of it, it seems like a small deal but added together with all the other such "minor issues" it underscores a huge mentality issue.. The mentality that immigrants, be it legal or illegal, are a nuisance in this country and we (Americans) can treat them any way we want.
Btw, there are certain categories of filers, for whom the date the I-140 is filed serves as their priority date - hence, 7 hours of the last 6 days in which THEY (not you guys) can file seems like an absurdly long (and wrong) amount of time.

Greg, awesome job! What can we do to make our voice heard? Can we talk to the "supervisor" of these bad "customer service reps" (i.e. USCIS) and who is that supervisor? What can we do to reverse the trend from worsening to improving customer service?

imm - They know that many companies will have difficulty getting a case filed on the weekend and will wait until Monday when the fees go up.

You can call your Congressmen and tell them to complain to USCIS. You can contact the USCIS Ombudsman office - the role of the Ombudsman is to focus on customer service.

So, If I file my I-140($195), I-485($325) together tomorrow then postmarked by July 27 or 28 will be fine?

I think complaints should also be directed to Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren. We know she cares and she has the power to influence.

In the last days, I have realized that we have something in common with the first Pilgrims that came to America, we also have a lot in common with all the immigrants that arrived last century to the Ellis Island, and that is the same COURAGE and values to go after our dreams giving the best of ourselves for this country and for our families.

Based on what we did this last month dont you think that we need to take action to do something to make possible an increase on the GCs quota?.

I'd like to use this forum to generate all together as a team great Ideas to show that we are a positive agent of succes for America. The idea of the flowers was marvelous but I think is time to move forward, some new ideas could be:

    - Pay a TV commercial showing that we (America) need diversity, need talented Immmigrants to maintain their leadership in the world.

    - Post ads in the news papers (WSJ, NY times, Washington Post etc) with the same message.

    - I read the blog of Greg Siskind he is doing something great mentioning oustanding immigrants on daily basis, why dont we do the same?

    - Attend all senator meetings and speech and have smart and pacific members of IV in all of them showing the message?

I THINK WE CAN DO IT, we are the owners of our future, we are the only really interested in have our GCs, I dont see the USCIS, Lou Dobbs, or USANET interested in see something positive about us.

Please lest post our ideas, and together as a team as the new America immigrants lets look for our future. America is the land where everything is possible I DO BELIEVE IN AMERICA SAME AS THE PILGRIMS AND I THINK YOU ALL BELIEVE THE SAME THATS WHY WE ARE HERE AND why WE READ THIS FORUM...

Please we need ideas.... LETS MOVE FORWARD WE CAN DO IT........
