Greg Siskind on Immigration Law and Policy

CHEERS TO REPRESENTATIVE LOFGREN!

Rate this Entry

By now, most of you know Zoe Lofgren not just as a Congresswoman from California who chairs the House Immigration Subcommittee, but as a new hero to immigrants across the country. Ms. Lofgren and her extremely able staff may be new to their leadership role on immigration, but they handled the Visa Bulletin mess with skill and tenacity - and sheer grit - that I have rarely seen in my 17 years of writing about immigration law and policy. Others might have merely expressed regret about the treatment so many received by the ill-considered attempt to shut the door on adjustment petitions, but Representative Lofgren and her team refused to accept the injustice and worked publicly and behind the scenes to force USCIS and the Department of State to justify their actions and to come up with a plan to right the wrong. I salute the Congresswoman and wish her many years of successful leadership of the Subcommittee.

Earlier this evening, the Congresswoman released

this statement:

The Secretary of Homeland Security in a phone call today informed
me that a solution to the Visa Bulletin fiasco has been found.  The
Department of State will issue an August Visa Bulletin that permits the
filing of adjustment of status applications through August 17, 2007, at
the current fee level, which will be accepted through that date by the
Department of Homeland Security.  I'm pleased that a reasonable
solution has been reached. I will continue to monitor the situation to
ensure that both the Departments of State and Homeland Security follow
through properly with this plan.

    Greg,

I absolutely agree with you. Zoe Lofgren needs to be thanked and encouraged for all her efforts both in front and behind the scenes.

May be IV, you and others can work with her to get her more understanding of our problems (not that she might not know already) and may be we can help her with the problems that she faces in the House and Senate with further legal immigration reform.

Finally - I want to thank you for spending all your precious time in keeping us updated and een fightin for us behind the scenes!

I absolutely agree. Hurray to Rep. Zoe Lofgren.
Her leadership and role in sorting out the visa fiasco mess is undoubtedly one of the major reasons for the resolution.
I and my family thank her from the bottom of our hearts adn will remember her for this for years to come.
I would especially like to commend her forthright stance in the letter she published to DHS on July 9, which raised the correct questions. I would also like to state that no congressperson has ever picked up and resolved a immigration issue so forcefully and with conviction.

Thanks again. And thank you too Greg for keeping us informed

    Absolutely agree with you, Greg!!

People like me and thousands other were dejected and angry on July 2nd. At such a time, Congresswoman Joe Lofgren came as a saviour.

She was crystal clear in her communications, made it crystal clear that those who caused the injustice to such law-abiding section of society would be held accountable and punished.

Hats off to Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren for all the support for this cause!

Their are still many pressing issues that concern legal immigrants. I have full confidence that in her leadership those issues will be resolved soon.

Greg, a big thanks to you for supporting us.
    We request your continued support!

A big thanks to AILA as well. I am sure they did a lots of important things in the background. The pressure they build with the class action process definitely helped reaching to solution faster.

    I AM HAPPY TODAY!!
