HOUSE PASSES PASSPORT BACKLOG MEASURE

Rate this Entry

The House has passed the Passport Backlog Reduction Act of 2007 (S.966), a measure that allows the State Department to re-hire retired State Department personnel to assist in working through the massive backlog of passport applications. Applications have surged because of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, a program requiring people to use passports when they travel between the US, Canada and Mexico. The bill has already passed in the Senate, but because the House version is somewhat different, the Senate must re-pass its version to conform.
