is it because of how "we" wrote our act or because suing Alabama provides good atmospherics for DOJ?

I'm guessing a little of both:

Alabama joins Arizona at forefront of national debate on illegal immigration
Following Arizona's lead, several states introduced similar laws to crack down on illegal immigration. But Alabama's 72-page act, criminalizing many aspects of daily life for illegal immigrants and those who deal with them, appears to have catapulted the state into equal footing with Arizona, as the federal government has challenged only those two states.

but you'd never know from the bland coverage which rarely can be bothered to quote from or analyze said act.

Did you see this immigration travesty?

I totally agree with floridians against the secure community law. This
administration and congress should be ashamed of themselves. We are all
immigrants or children or grandchildren of immigrants. That's what made this
country great. The reverse is destroying us. It makes me ashamed to be an
American. Our immigrants are the best and brightest. We should take a lesson
    from them.

The lead blog in's Immigration Daily 8/17/2011 includes this claim made against Secure Communities: "...the protesters called for an end to the program, which they said had led to the deportation of victims who reported domestic violence to the police..."

I would like to know: Exactly where in the U.S. do domestic violence victims get fingerprinted?

IF this claim is true, it is a travesty and must be brought center stage immediately. Where has the ACLU filed this particular class action lawsuit? IF this is happening and domestic violence victims are being arrested (which is what is required in order for the Police to fingerprint them during booking) THEN there MUST be a class action lawsuit filed somewhere in order to put an end to this Civil Rights Atrocity!

Please identify where this is happening and I will sign any petition and support any such Civil Rights Class Action Lawsuit Against the Police for their Wholesale Arresting and Fingerprinting HELPLESS Domestic Violence VICTIMS!

    Show me the evidence.

    Dear Editor,

Rather than making Arizona and Alabama and their efforts to control
entry the critical topic of immigration discussions, the focus should be
upon the disaster that California has become.
See: " California: The Titanic of Immigration"
Most all of the potential benefits of immigration would be achieved with
limited, selected and fully enforced policies without the many negatives
resulting from mass legal and illegal entrants. Why should these or any
other states or cities be attacked for seeking to protect themselves
from these negatives? The PC dogma of modern diversity is highly
suspect as to it's unlimited desirability. See: "Can Diversity
    Destroy Us?
    (and) "It Can't Happen Here"
Why should those individuals who advocate such responsible, prudent
positions be called bigots, haters and similar phony names as many are
prone to do? See: "The SPLC Wants To Starve My Family"
Rather, it is those who pursue the irresponsible, unlimited numbers of
migrants who are in need of repenting of their wrong and harmful
positions for the survival of what is left of traditional America as a
result of going down that road too far and too fast. It is they who are
screaming "full speed ahead" while the ship silently is sinking into the

My partner is a Registered Nurse with Neonatal Intensive Care expertise, and has been waiting for her EB3 visa for more than 5 years now. As I am not able to sponsor my same-sex partner for legal immigration into the U.S., so we have patiently pursued the work visa avenue. We have been living and working in the Middle East over these many years, in exile, while waiting for the visa to materialize. The hospital in Florida trhat sponsored her visa has also been waiting for her to join their institution for more than 5 years also - undoubtedly affecting patient care and requiring additional money to be spent on agency personal or overtime.

America's immigration laws are old, impractical, and extremely unfair/unequal. As an American citizen, I feel as though I've been forced to live outside my own country to be with my spouse, and we've sacrificed a great deal to try to get into the States legally. I'm a Democrat, voted for OBama, and am extremely disappointed in his lack of suport and action in regards to immigration and equality. If he wants to have my vote, and many others' votes in the next election, he must show leadership and make resounding decisions to improve immigration policy that is within his power now and be true to all Americans.

    Dear Editor:

Professional name-caller and expert at being offended and telling others

when they should be offended, writer Roger Algase in yesterday's ID blog

(8/18/11) is Exhibit B [SPLC is Exhibit A ] in the V-dare article
referred to in my also yesterday's letter to the editor [ See:
which ask's the valid question --- Who are the really intolerant ones?
Neither typically discusses in depth the merits of those they attack.
With them, it is only needed to dismiss opposing views and their
positions with a flippant, offensive name, often multiple names. While
I appreciate ID running my opposing viewpoint and making a correction, I

also note that ID did not place my name in the main email regarding
letters received. Since this has happened before, it is becoming
difficult to view this as an oversight. I would hate (excuse the term)
to think that ILW/ID would deliberately do this because of intolerance.
