Nov 5 - Latino Immigration Lawyer Defeats Anti-Immigrant

Rating: 13 votes, 5.00 average.

-----------------IMMIGRATION DAILY FROM ILW.COM------------------

November 5, 2010

ITEMS

1. Comment: Latino Immigration Lawyer Defeats Anti-Immigrant
Democrat - A Latino immigration lawyer, Republican Raul Labrador,
defeated the anti-immigrant Democratic incumbent in Idaho's first
congressional district. Immigration attorney Rep. Joseph Cao,
Republican of New Orleans was defeated, thus keeping the number
of immigration attorneys in the House of Representatives the same
(at two, including the current House Immigration Sub-Committee
Chair). The most prominent immigrant who won this November 2nd
was Marco Rubio of Florida, whose parents became Americans thanks
to the generous immigration provisions extended to Cuban
nationals. We hope Senator-Elect Rubio will advocate the same
generous immigration provisions for people of all nationalities -
perhaps he will begin by sponsoring a Haitian Adjustment Act.

The Nov. 5th issue of ILW stated that Marco Rubio is an immigrant. He is not an immigrant. He was born in Miami, Florida.

    Thank you,

  2. Editor, ILW.COM's Avatar
    Dear Ms. Boecker,

Thank you for your comment. Sen. Elect Rubio is a son of immigrants. As per common usage we refer to son's and daughters of immigrants as immigrants--though the legal use of the term immigrant is different.
