-----------------IMMIGRATION DAILY FROM ILW.COM------------------

October 14, 2010,1014.shtm

1. Comment: The Immigrant Vote Is Here - A report from the
Immigration Policy Center, featured below, paints a picture of
the growing electoral power of new Americans: naturalized
citizens and the US born children of immigrants. They already
account for over 10% of registered voters and are growing
rapidly. The immigrant vote has finally arrived for the first
time since the National Origins Quota Acts of 1921 and 1924. Just
like in the early 1900s, the immigratn vote is geographically
concentrated and is largely urban. The immigrant vote was pivotal
in transforming the Democratic Party - urban immigrants were an
integral part of the new FDR coalition. Within the next decade or
so, this immigrant vote will remake one of the two parties -
whether Democratic or Republican remains to be seen. Perhaps the
112th Congress will hold a glimpse of the future - because PART
of that future is already here.

  1. Don Miller's Avatar
This is NOT the "immigrant vote", nor is this a matter of "immigrants". It is solely, and always has been for you, a matter of Mexicans and to a far lesser degree Central Americans. This is the "Mexican" vote that you are referring to and the "immigrants" about whom you pretend such deep concern are not Danes or Chileans or Byeolrussians or Greeks...your only concern is Mexicans. I would urge that you be more honest in your writing, but then perhaps if the American public really knew that your entire program was intended to inflict ever more Mexicans upon them there would be greater outrage at your efforts.
  2. Roger Algase's Avatar
If Don Miller had said "inflict ever more" Jews, African-Americans or Asians on the American public, I do not think there is anyone who would dispute that his comment was racist. How is this any different when he uses the word "Mexicans" instead?

Comments like Mr. Milier's are the reason that America has an immigration problem, not the fact that foreign born people from Mexico or elsewhere are coming to this country, as they always have and no doubt always will.
