  1. Roger Algase, Attorney at Law's Avatar
Bravo! Bravo! Bravo! Those are the only words I can think of to describe the courageous act of President Obama and the Justice Department in filing suit against the Arizona hate law. If bigoted state and local legislators are allowed to take the immigration laws into their own hands, we will have total chaos in the immigration system, with racism free to run amok, just as was the case before the 1960's civil rights laws.

The Obama administration has struck a tremendous blow for racial justice and sanity in our immigration system. I believe that even the right wing radicals on the Supreme Court will go along with the administration's well founded claim of federal preemption - at least I would expect Justices Roberts and Alito, who wrote a very fair concurring opinion supporting the liberal wing in a recent case involving the right to counsel in deportation proceeding to do so, if this case ever even makes it to the high court. I also want to thank ID for putting the entire complaint on its website. I have only had time to read the introduction so far. It is brilliant, by any standard, and seems like a very careful and thorough job as well.

It seems to me that the Arizona law is toast. The chance that it will ever go into effect, or that any other states will try to copy it, has now gone down to close to zero. Of course, President Obama will take tremendous flak for this from the racists, and it may cost him heavily. But with the Hispanic vote, and the votes of all Americans who hate racism and prejudice in any form, I think that he will survive and win a second term.
