(a) Massachusetts Election: Death Knell For Immigration Reform?

Tuesday's historic election in Massachusetts could spell trouble
for Democrats, but advocates of immigration reform say it's not
over yet.

(b) Vows To Move Fast For Haitian Immigrants In US

Clutching their passports and well-thumbed documents, hundreds of
illegal Haitian immigrants crowded into a Roman Catholic church
here on Wednesday to seek help in applying for a program that
would allow them to stay and work legally in the United States
for 18 months.

(c) Angel Island's History Offers Lessons On Immigration Policy

The immigrant station's past underscores America's contradictory
approach to immigration: The U.S. welcomes the 'huddled masses
yearning to be free' even as it unfairly detains and deports
newcomers.

(a) Dear Editor:
Regarding Leo Van Randall Jr.'s letter (01/20/10 ID) asking how
the immigration system is broken and why not just enforce the
laws we have, the immigration system is broken because the system
no longer provides reasonable results, so merely enforcing the
laws more strenuously does nothing but make the problem worse.
Our current system fails because the numbers of visas
significantly trail the demand, preventing people that we want to
have in this country from being able to legally come and stay
here.  Is there any reason a physician from India or an engineer
from China should wait 8 -10 years to become a legal permanent
resident, with another 5+ years to become a citizen?    Those who
entered via fraud or deceit, or have committed serious crimes
while here, should be removed.  However, many otherwise law-
abiding people fall out of legal status because of mistake,
confusion, or bad advice.  Unfortunately, the current law treats
everyone the same, with the only "remedy" of "leave the country."
Finally, the immigration system is broken because the laws are so
complex that even the government does not know the rules.  For
example, is someone in the US with a pending I-485 but an expired
I-94 allowed to be here?  USCIS says the person is here legally,
but CBP and ICE say the person is removable from the country.  In
these kinds of situations, there is no way to follow the law
since no one can even agree to what the law is.   Additional
piecemeal fixes to the immigration system are doomed to failure.
We must have an approach that makes it easier for beneficial
people to come and stay in the country, while at the same time
making the system more straightforward so that everyone can
understand and follow the rules.
Scott T. Decker, Esq. Albany, NY

(b) Dear Editor:
As usual, the American government can never seem to find a middle
way in the current immigration debate.  We can of course use all
the educated, entrepreneurial, English-speaking immigrants we can
get.  What we do not need are hordes of illiterate 3d World
"bottom feeders" who, especially in the case of the Mexicans,
make no attempt to learn English or become Americans, and indeed
come here with the intent of "Mexicanizing" as much of the
country as possible.  No other immigrant group has done that nor
does any other immigrant group today intend that.  The logical
solution?  Do everything to encourage the educated and potential
contributors to immigrate and ease their entrance as much as
possible.  Halt all immigration from Mexico and Latin America
except for those persons with the former qualifications and ban
completely all immigration of Muslims from whichever country on
grounds of national security.  Simple. Of course the pro-
immigration crowd, who somehow have the belief that foreigners
have a "right" to come into the US and the PC "nazis", who are
obsessed with never offending anyone, would resist any such
logic.

What I like about small business owners is that they are not afraid to take huge risks and lay it all on the line. But, I agree they do need a lot of help with their marketing. I think having them go the social media and email route is not only the least expensive but its also the most effective. Thanks for the stats!
With Facebook and Twitter being among the leaders of the Social networks, marketing as a small business is being transformed..
Respondents according to the Vertical Response survey appear to need some differentiation with the use of SE marketing and Social media Marketing
