Make Sure You Get It

Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are combating spam through a
variety of filters and blocking software to trap emails before
they even reach one's email inbox. The upshot is that many ISPs
are incorrectly categorizing legitimate email as undesired and
preventing these emails from ever reaching your inbox. If you are
experiencing email delivery issues, your ISP may have blocked
Immigration Daily delivery. To reduce the chances of this
happening to you in the future, please add Immigration Daily
(editor@ilw.com) to your email program contact list, mark the
email as "not junk" or add it to your "white list"--whichever is
applicable. This lets your ISP know that you want the email
delivered and reduces the chance of it being blocked. In spite of
this, If you do not receive your Immigration Daily issue anytime,
please contact the customer service of your ISP to report the
problem and let us know of the problem by writing to
webmaster@ilw.com.

We welcome readers to share their opinion and ideas with us by
writing to mailto:editor@ilw.com.

(a) Dear Editor:
If I understand Honza Prchal's letter (12/15/09 ID) correctly, it
seems to say that there would be nothing wrong with a US
immigration system that plays ethnic or "cultural" favorites. His
letter appears to recommend skewing national origin immigration
quotas in order to allow greater numbers of people to immigrate
from countries whose citizens are more likely to "assimilate" to
American culture quickly, while reducing quotas for countries
whose citizens are more likely to create "slow assimilating
ghettos". This idea is not a new one. It inspired the Know-
Nothings to persecute Irish immigrants in the 19th Century,
because their Roman Catholic religion was considered to make the
Irish unable to assimilate quickly to American culture. Toward
the end of that century, the US Supreme Court held that Chinese
immigrants were inherently unable to assimilate to American
culture and that the Chinese exclusion laws were therefore
Constitutional. In 1924, Congress, motivated by popular
stereotypes to the effect that immigrants from Eastern Europe
(including the territory that is now part of Mr. Prchal's native
Czech Republic, according to his letters) would tend to create
the equivalent of slow assimilating ghettos (though less polite
phrases were in use at the time), cut off almost all immigration
from that part of the world. Perhaps a future letter by Mr.
Prchal will be able to explain how that act of Congress was any
different from the suggestion in his own above mentioned letter.

(b) Dear Editor:
Responding to the Yang letter (see 12/14/09 ID), all his letter's
arguments are just personal opinions with no real solutions,
studies or posit that anyone can use as tools to untangle the
immigration issue. His letter refers to Jesus' principles, then
reverts to Old Testament principles "The Bible suggests
persecution and death penalty for gays, unruly kids ..." that was
Mosaic law. Jesus fulfilled the "law" and initiated "grace" which
includes gays, unruly kids, etc. If you want to review these, I
refer you to His sermon on the mount in the New Testament, which
explains in great detail. The failure is not in religion but is
instead in man.* Even though the vast majority of people in this
country are Christians, our politicians have steadily legislated
Jesus out.* Unless this country again decides to put their trust
in God again. Ref. the Yang letter (12/14/09 ID) where his letter
states that "anyone stop using Biblical or other religious
references in this debate" then himself proceeds using religion
to continue his discussion. All these arguments are just personal
opinions with no real solutions, studies or posit that anyone can
use as tools to untangle the immigration issue.* Example - his
letter refers to Jesus' principles, then reverts to Old Testament
principles "The Bible suggests persecution and death penalty for
gays, unruly kids..." that were Mosaic laws.* Jesus (God in the
flesh) fulfilled the "law" and started "grace" which includes
gays, unruly kids, etc. The failure is not in religion but is
instead in man. This country has steadily legislated Jesus out.
Indeed religion should not be an issue in the immigration debate
unless this country again decides to put their trust in God again
because God doesn't ordinarily bless those who don't believe and
trust in Him.
Ben

(c) Dear Editor:
I keep asking those in favor of "immigration reform" ... who want
illegal aliens to get amnesty. Then what limit will they and
their advocates do to help prevent future illegal alien entrants
from the these United States of America?
