Readers can share comments, email: mailto:editor@ilw.com  (up to
300-words). Past correspondence is available in our archives
http://www.ilw.com/immigdaily/archives.shtm

(a) Dear Editor:
Re: Immigration benefits on the Hill (05/25/09 ID comment). Two
quick observations.  First, a delay may not be a bad thing.  It
would give the economy a chance to pick up and unemployment a
chance to go down.  My other observation is that it would be a
mistake to take Democratic members for granted.   I doubt that
any of them have districts that are 100% behind immigration reform.
Nolan Rappaport, Esq.

(b) Dear Editor:
A CIS examiner recently refused to approve a green card for my
client because the sponsor was a Puerto Rican and could not
produce a green card.  The beneficiary tried to explain that his
non-English speaking wife/sponsor was a U.S. citizen.  The
examiner yelled at him to "shut up."  My complaint up the line
got the case transferred to another examiner but the first
examiner is still employed.  At the second interview - which I
attended - I asked the examiner if she knew why we were having a
second interview.  She did not.  I told her of her cohort's
ignorance and she immediately approved the green card.  I wonder
what exam the CIS employees must pass to get the job.
Paul Good, Esq.

(c) Dear Editor:
Letter writer Roger Algase, Esq. closes his post with "As long as
there are people around to rant and rave against all Latinos,
including those who are legal immigrants or US citizens, the
Republicans will always have a loyal, enthusiastic, base."
(05/29/09 ID). The ludicrousness of the letter is not really my
concern. I am confused, however, why ID found it appropriate to
publish a letter which in my opinion explicitly refers to all
members of a political party as racist. If someone wrote that all
Democrats were pedophiles, would ID have been as prone to publish
the letter?
Christopher W. Basaman, Esq.

(d) Dear Editor:
I am heartened by Mr. Yang's letter's (06/01/09 ID) loving and
embracing spirit, and recognition of the inherent selfishness of
borders and the use of laws to foster petty self interests. I
therefore request the pleasure of my removal to his house for an
indefinite period, with due respect for my particular culture. I
would like to be served kosher, non-gluten, low sodium food.
Michael Steinberg

(e) Dear Editor:
Not all white Americans support Grand really Old Party.
Republican is losing votes because it alienates many voters by
its own inconsistency and hypocrisy. How comes they can cut taxes
while keep the level of spending and engaging in expensive and
unwarranted wars creating huge deficit? How comes a party that
believes in strict interpretation of our laws and Constitution
but ignore the part of separation of church and state by catering
more to religious extremists with their hypocritical holier than
thou political agendas? A party believes that welfare and
universal health care for the poor and lazy are wrong but big
pies for their wealthy corporate cronies is fine and health care
and pharmaceutical industries should be allowed to make obscene
profits on us at will? A party that believes that same sex
marriage should be banned and illegal but not divorces who mess
up many children life and break the "sanctity of marriage" even
more. A party believes in free market and capitalism and yet they
must please their whining constituents who believe in
protectionism, nativism and xenophobia, that illegal immigration
must stop but let the companies outsource jobs to India instead ?
We don't want hypocrite neo cons nor ignorant liberals to run the
nation. We must have a party of common sense that uphold equal
rights principles for all Americans and even to all human beings
in general. The biggest blunder for liberals, some Democrats,
Judge Sotomayor and President Obama administration is that they
must stop supporting reverse racism and affirmative action
policies for the minorities. It's wrong, unfair and absurd and
even insult to all minorities including myself that we can't earn
something by our own merits without being given special favor.
Everyone must pass the very same entrance test regardless of skin
color and race. Period.
Robert Yang

(f) Dear Editor:
Must be difficult, to break all ties, to separate the truth from
the lies, Of your comforting cradle of birth, Toward a far land,
set forth. Must be difficult, to unlearn, Everything you once
knew, The new speedily in your mind burn, A different thinking
accept as true. Must be difficult, to get used, To faces white
and black, To wish self-protective skills fused, Master the alien
with an easy knack. Must be difficult, more than the ways, To
tragically leave behind, The feel of rainy tropical days,
Neighbors and friends kind. Must be difficult, to restart, From
the bottom of the ladder, With your strange foreign ways part,
Keep the homesickness from making you sadder. But, yet you do it,
With great joy and pain, To keep the internal fire you once lit,
And pursue happiness, not in vain
R. Saheb
