(a) Dear Editor:
Regarding ID Comment (05/28/09 ID): Looking at Judge Sonia
Sotomayor's nomination as either a down payment on President
Obama's promise to move Comprehensive Immigration Reform (CIR),
supposedly to be dealt with at his June 8 immigration conference,
or a bone thrown to Latinos for a failure to push CIR, may be
reading too much into strictly Supreme Court politics. The
opposition to CIR, which would lead to granting basic rights to a
Latino and Asian underclass that is now the target of venomous
hatred and contempt among millions of voters in both parties, is
based on a deep, entrenched racism fueled by fears that whites
will lose their majority status and all that comes with it, not
just in a handful of Western states, but throughout America. This
is something that was astutely pointed out by the late Professor
Samuel Huntington (a bitter opponent of Latino immigration) in
his 2002 book "Who Are We?". Granting legal status to 12 million
or more illegal  immigrants (or perhaps more accurately just
human beings?) is a huge undertaking politically. It would be
equivalent to abolishing racial segregation in the 1950's and
1960's. John F.Kennedy, for example was clearly personally
against segregation, but he was unwilling to touch it, leaving
that task to his successor, Lyndon Johnson. In this regard, I am
afraid that President Obama, who is too timid even to close
Guantanamo now or to prosecute torturers, will turn out to show
more of this particular side of the "spirit of Camelot" than the
bold vision of LBJ. Here is one prediction that President Obama
will renege on his CIR promise and leave the entire legalization
issue to a more courageous successor. His grand June 8
immigration conference will probably be about as productive as
the next UN meeting on North Korea.
Roger Algase, Esq.                 New York, NY

(b) Dear Editor:
Regarding David Murray's letter (05/28/09 ID): I agree Haiti is
short of resources but I would rather send $100 million to our
close neighbor than send that amount to Lebanon.  Haiti has
contributed much to the US over the centuries without costing us
very much.  Years ago my wife and I decided to have a French
language wedding in Port-au-Prince. What fun that was!
Paul Good, Esq.

(c) Dear Editor:
This letter is in response to Mr. Andrade's letter of (05/28/09
ID).  The letter claims that "I didn't hear anyone say they were
insulted" about the CSC's refusal to provide decent responses to
fair questions posed in the written Q&A and by members of the
audience.  There were several tense exchanges between the
'stakeholder' community and CSC officials during the course of
the meeting and afterwards.  Furthermore, my in-box has been full
over the last week from attendees thanking me for conveying the
essence of the meeting with crystal-like clarity.  Maybe we all
imagined this tension in exactly the same way?  I doubt it
somehow.  Whether Mr. Andrade's letter acknowledges it or not,
there is real anger among the stakeholder community regarding the
overall arrogant, unresponsive approach of the CSC in tandem with
radically shifting adjudications patterns that defy explanation
(which, of course, CSC refuses to explain, let alone admit is
occurring).  If the letter wants to serve as a water carrier for
the CSC, then that's its burden to bear.  Otherwise, if the
letter is happy with the way CSC conducts its business, it must
be based on low expectations in life and easy to please.
Brandon Meyer               Solana Beach, CA

(d) Dear Editor:
When is this country going to realize that there are Americans
here who do vote and do not want illegals or any form of amnesty
for the illegals in this country. I am tired of politicians using
thier power to get votes from Latino's.  The last I heard the
American vote was larger than Latino.  I hope every American
votes against these people who would trade thier country for a
Latino vote.  It looks like Obama is trying by his new nomination
for Judge.  Somewhere along the line I think all these
politicians will lose their seats in Congress but giving in to
illegals and they appear to have no guts or backbones when it
comes to Latinos.  I really think if the Republicans would stand
up and fight for Americans and their rights and not Latino's or
illegals they can win back their party.  They certainly would
have my vote and all my famiy and friends.  We do not want
amnesty of any kind and want to see all illegals departed and
sooner the better.
Anna Stacy

(e) Dear Editor:
Mr. Murray's letter (05/28/09 ID) failed to notice on my letter
trying to emphasize on hypocrisy and double standard nature on
our foreign relation and immigration policies. Haitian and Cuban
refugees don't speak English, but that's not my point. My point
is that we have political asylum and refugee legal process that
should apply equally to any refugees regardless country of origin
and they must apply on their own merits and personal cases. If we
can have cozy relationships with any other dictator regimes on
Earth why we must single out Cuba because of the objection of
small Cuban Americans minority while many more Americans prefer
to have common sense and better relationship with Cuba. We can't
do much to fix problems around the world nor to accommodate
billions to come to our country, it doesn't mean that we don't
care. Billions of the populationin this planet live under $2 a
day, why ? Because they must become our "slaves" and be happy to
accept our fiat currency that we print at will and to finance our
beyond our means lifestyles using IOUs. Chinese will sometime get
tired buying Treasury Bonds and many nations in fact are trading
in Chinese Yuan or using barter system as early sign that they
have lack of faith and appetite on our currency which sits on
growing mountain of deficit and debt. The due time is near when
many people living and working in the "third world" demanding
justice on their hard honest labor. If we don't invest in our
education system, build strong families with good values and work
ethics and still take things for granted soon or later we will
regret it when time is due to pay back and realize that we count
our blessings in IOUs not real wealth.
Robert Yang

(f) Dear Editor:
Since ID knows all that is brewing on the hill.  Do you know
anything of talk about revising or bringing back the 245i?
American citizen legitimately married to an illegal alien can
change their status?
Susan

(g) Dear Editor:
President Obama should get this immigration bill pass this year.
It will benefit both the illegals as well as the american
economy.
