Latinos Likely Tipped Balance Against Republicans in Virginia Race

Rating: 2 votes, 5.00 average.
Another dismal day yesterday for anti-immigrant candidates. Ken Cuccinelli narrowly lost the Virginia governor's race to Democrat Terry McAuliffe last night and a substantially larger Latino voter turnout combined with an overwhelming margin of support for the Democrat made the difference in what was a very close election. Cuccinelli didn't help himself by previously comparing immigrants to rats.

By contrast, New Jersey Republican Governor Chris Christie cruised to an easy victory. His pro-immigration views helped him win nearly half of the Latino vote.
