Greg Siskind on Immigration Law and Policy

Goodlatte: No Reason Out of Status Immigrants Can't Get Legalized

Rate this Entry
House Judiciary Committee Chair Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) has moved to a much more moderate place on the immigration political spectrum since taking the helm of the committee. When his name was first floated, I was highly skeptical of the choice. But more and more he's sounding like someone interested in solving a problem than merely scoring political points with the xenophobic wing of his party. Take yesterday's interview with Telemundo, for example. From Politico:

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) says he sees “no reason” why current undocumented immigrants shouldn’t gain legal status as long as Congress enacts tougher border-security and enforcement measures.

In a Telemundo interview set to air Sunday, Goodlatte addressed the set of immigration principles that Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said earlier Thursday is expected to be released in the “coming weeks.

Goodlatte outlined three pillars of an overhaul – ensuring border enforcement, fixing the legal immigration system and determining a legal status for immigrants already in the country illegally. He stressed that interior enforcement was a major point of focus for Republicans, noting that as much of 40 percent of undocumented immigrants did not cross a border illegally, but overstayed a visa.

“If we can have a way to get [enforcement] up and operating, I see no reason why we can’t also have an agreement that shows how people who are not lawfully here can be able to be lawfully here – able to live here, work here, travel to and from their home country, be able to own a business, pay their taxes,” Goodlatte, a veteran lawmaker who was an immigration lawyer before coming to Congress, said on the Telemundo show “Enfoque,” according to a transcript of the interview.

You cannot trust anybody today relating to the policies of illegal immigration, as everybody wants a piece of the national pie, including the Republican establishment for lines of cheap labor, for the Democrats votes—legal or illegal. Then the special interests want their cut of the benefits, while the taxpayer gets the bill for covering the healthcare, schooling for their children and a package of support, to supplement the parent’s income which includes subsidized housing.

THE PEOPLE’S TEA PARTY is splintering away from the Republican Establishment. The Tea Party is moderation in Conservatism, a grassroots movement that calls awareness to any issue which challenges the security, sovereignty, or domestic tranquility of our beloved nation, the United States of America. From our founding, the Tea Party represents the voice of the true owners of the United States: WE THE PEOPLE.

I have heard, but with no confirmation that 40 percent of the electorate has changed their registration preference to an “Independent Voter”?

My personal preference for a new President in 2016 is a man who is generally overlooked, but has strong command of his statements and believes in what he says. I would vote for Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama any day. He is the man of THE PEOPLE and never flip-flops in his commitment to the American people. I voted for Obama but was lied to by his subordinates who use their lying oratory and propaganda for a cheap vote. Neither heads of the Democrats or Republicans are trustworthy and will carry out the orders of the Special interests, which includes overlooking foreigners voting in our elections, or the GOP inflating their big business bank accounts.

This administration has ties to criminals, murderers and extremist groups. An administration filled with corruption right down to the Attorney General of the United States of America. President Obama's presidency is awash in a sea of lies, corruption, scandals and cover-ups to concealing other wrongdoings. We the People deserve better than a president who left innocent Americans to be murdered in Benghazi, handing guns to criminals in fast and furious controversy and granted untold numbers of criminal’s de-facto amnesty. This is Obama’s America. A nation economically devastated, a people lied to and oppressed. We must end this now. Both political parties cannot excuse themselves from the blame, which is running deep in the public eye. President Obama’s minions have circumvented the “Rule of Law” and the U.S. Constitution that has served our country well for over 200 years.
