House Republicans Demagogue Deportation in Order to Resist Reform. By Roger Algase

Rating: 2 votes, 5.00 average.

Update, March 8, 11:57 pm:

Ann Coulter served up more bigotry against brown immigrants in a speech at the right wing Republican Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), according to a March 8 POLITICO report: Coulter slams GOP pols on immigration.

POLITICO quotes Coulter as follows:

"And on top of that, something I think people haven't really noticed - well, certainly they've noticed on MSNBC where they are celebrating the browning of America, but if you don't celebrate it you're a racist - it is going to be people who are not from America who are in theory going to funding older white people who are getting to their Social Security, Medicare age. I don't think that can last."

In other words, Coulter is saying that white people will not be able to rely on their Medicare or Social Security if these programs depend on money being paid into the system by brown people.

I had always thought that money had only one color - green. But its seems that the Republican right wing has the idea that money earned or paid in by brown immigrants is not worth as much as money from white American workers.

No wonder the Tea Party-controlled House GOP leadership is so anxious to deport every last one of the 11 million plus mainly non-white immigrants who are in the US without legal status, and to scare the president away from using his administrative power to grant relief from removal which the courts have consistently upheld.

Question: why is President Obama letting himself be bullied and intimidated by Congressional right wing legislative circus tactics such as the one described below?

The following is my original post:

House Republican leaders are continuing to throw egg in the faces of immigration supporters who have been taking them at their word and believing in their good faith on immigration reform during the past eight months. Three influential GOP Representatives, Trey Gowdy (SC), Darrell Issa (CA) and Bob Goodlatte (VA), who is head of the House Judiciary Committee, are backing a bill known as the ENFORCE Act (H.R. 4138).

The Hill reports that this bill would allow the House or Senate to authorize legal action against the administration's alleged "willful neglect of the law".

What law are they talking about? According to The Hill, one of the main targets of the bill is the president's decision to delay deportation proceedings against noncriminal unauthorized immigrants.

See House targets Obama's law enforcement (March 7)

As I have mentioned previously, Goodlatte in particular is someone whom some starry-eyed immigration supporters were looking to not too long ago as a knight in shining white armor, who would (one day) report a package of "piecemeal" immigration reform bills out of his committee which would add up to real immigration reform.

Does anyone still think that Goodlatte, or any other House Republican leader from John Boehner on down, has any such idea?

Instead, what are we seeing from Sir Bob and his House Republican colleagues (one of whom, Trey Gowdy, was behind the notorious House GOP "SAFE" Act bill which would put Arizona's Sheriff Joe and bigoted Alabama officials back in the business of rounding up and incarcerating anyone who speaks Spanish or "looks" Latino on suspicion of being an "illegal immigrant invader")?

We are seeing nothing but more Republican immigration "enforcement" demagoguery and legislative stunts to pander to white Republican voters who want to kick every single brown immigrant (and their American children) out of the United States and close our borders so that no more will come in, legally or otherwise.

And how much longer will immigration advocates be naive enough to think that the president is serious about "bringing around" the House Republicans and their Tea Party puppet masters by deporting 2 million non-white men, women and children?

Maybe it is time for immigration supporters to throw away their rose-colored glasses and to pay more attention to how 11 million brown immigrants who are American in every way except their lack of legal status are being betrayed, not only by the Republicans, but by a president who continues to insist that he will somehow be able to make a deal with the GOP on reform, if only he deports enough million people first.

I think she is referring to the phenomenon of people being less favorable toward taxation and spending on social welfare when the recipients are not the same as you, e.g., racially. It is a factor in how whites feel about welfare if they feel it is largely being spent on non-whites and it is very possible that non-whites would feel the same way about being taxed with the money going largely to elderly whites. However, it is hard to say how that might play out with Latinos because a significant percentage identify as white and thus might not racially resent having their taxes largely going to non-Latino whites.

Assuming that brown immigrants might not want to pay taxes or make social security contributions because white people might benefit is the ultimate in racist nonsense.

The biggest threat to white social security beneficiaries is not from Latino immigrants, but from white GOP politicians such as Paul Ryan who want to gut social security and medicare by turning them into voucher or means tested programs.

I am so sick of all the excuses that tend to make illegal immigration alright in America, massive illegal immigration is like a disease that is very contagious, working it way to just smother Americans in their own country, it is actually killing Americans, it has nothing to do with color, it doesn't matter if it is a race that is white, black, brown, green, or purple, it so happen to be a majority of brown people coming from Mexico, itching to take over America, they do not really have to try hard, because we have in America, very weak and lenient politicians that want to give America to millions of other country poor and other foreigners America on a silver platter!! And these politicians do this over their own Americans heads!

In America massive illegal immigration is being force on poor and middle class Americans strongly, those that have jobs and money or a pay checks, can not, or refuse to see and feel what this is actually doing to their own poor and middle class, and jobless Americans, with millions of illegal aliens roaming in America, especially when millions of illegal aliens have jobs and are actually working illegally in our jobs, when there are millions of Americans left jobless! This is hurting jobless Americans terribly, jobless Americans want to work badly in their own country!

Illegal aliens and all of their advocates are using this massive illegal immigration in America as being racist, when in reality it is not, Americans do not want their country America be given to millions of another country's poor, are allowing them to become the majority of our America, and just watch illegal aliens to be rewarded for all their wrongdoings! A lot of people refuse to see what is going to happen if millions of illegal aliens have their way with America, Americans will be force to watch their country America turn into another country just to satisfy millions of illegal aliens, by millions of them already in our jobs, giving millions of the work permits, this will continue to leave millions of Americans jobless! Many of our politicians our blind to this, or just do not care! Just by looking at what America become with illegal aliens now, you could see what is going to happen once they get amnesty or legalization, being so it is just to many of them, and more family members to come with them, Americans will be smothered by illegal aliens in their own country, and Americans will be force to endure in all their needs and wants in America why their own welfare be ignored!!!! Illegal aliens will not help our American economy, they will destroy our America economy!! America will end up being all about them! Another amnesty or legalization will become another disaster but worse, just like the 1986 amnesty disaster!!!!!!!!

There is many people in this country who are waiting to be unified by her or his family ,because the UN declaration of human rights. But unfortunately this is hundreds of times that the house republicans put this holly UN law under theirs foot , witch is the biggest crime in all of americas history , the republicans do this to become on power by very wrong way , when they are coming on power they put the america and americans in the fire of the wars because they don't have a knowledge to govern the country by peace and intellect , they have only that military ,and army witch cost trillions of dollars from americans workers pocket and the next generation poorness and risky life in all of the world.I don't understand how can somebody talk about family ,when he separate the families of each other ,i think that he is a biggest layer in this planet.OK, now this the time to leave the wild west to the side and go with the UN declaration and unify this poor and sick families for gods seek.

Nonsense would be assuming that a group would want to pay for some other group simply out of faith or PC dogma. Does any academic believe that group bias does not matter in this regard? It can be studied--and has been all over the world! Maybe it might in this case but often it doesn't and when they try to measure it, the effect attributed is considerable. This has been found by economists and social scientists, e.g., Robert Putnam:

“Across local areas in the United States, Australia, Sweden, Canada, and Britain, greater ethnic diversity is associated with lower social trust and, at least in some cases, lower investment in public goods.”

In the case of a "brown immigrant" (as you put it), there is not just an ethnic or racial element but also nationality which is not a factor with native born blacks (who are often the focus of studies). I.e., if you give a non-white/non-native a benefit, there is not just the potential usual racial resentment but the potential thought they are not even or fully American--especially if they are not naturalized citizens but merely aliens, particularly if currently or ever unlawfully present (amnestied) or even related in some way to illegality (born in U.S. to unlawfully present aliens). Similarly, if the taxes of a non-white foreign born person are distributed to a white native, the immigrant could identify more as, e.g., Mexican (which they still might be a citizen of and not a U.S. citizen) and thus feel less of a connection which makes wealth redistribution more palatable.

Obviously, House Republicans are hoping to get the votes of people such as Jack2, Violita and Ann Coulter. That is why any thought of the House GOP leaders' being willing to have a serious discussion about immigration reform, or to come out with any serious reform proposals is delusional.

Immigration supporters, wake up! Behind John Boehner and Bob Goodlatte there is a crowd of anti-immigrant fanatics who will not tolerate an America that might not look as white as they are.
