Border Deal Expected to Add Several Republican Yes Votes to Immigration Bill

Rate this Entry
A compromise on border triggers between Senator Jon Cornyn and fellow other Republicans and the Senate's Gang of Eight could lead to a substantial number of new votes from GOP Senators for the immigration bill. They include Senator Bob Corker of Tennessee, John Hoeven of Nebraska and Mark Kirk of Illinois. Getting at least 70 votes in the Senate is seen by some as a large enough number to put pressure on the House to support the bill or at least pass a bill that is closer in substance to the Senate bill than the piecemeal bills now under consideration in the House Judiciary Committee.

    Greg,
What's the deal with these Quorum calls? Seems like a lost of wasted time...

Quorum calls are used for various purposes - sometimes to work out a deal off the floor, sometimes to allow time for Senators to get back to the floor if there are going to be votes and for other reasons. It's also a reason to get to listen to nice classical music on C-Span.

There have been some great speeches during this debate from Sens. Rubio, McCain, Graham and Landrieu. I have lot of hope in some of the emerging Senators who are so unlike others like Sen. Sessions

So much of fight at just the Senate, House will surely be a no-go
