House Working on an Immigration Schedule That is a Month Behind Senate

Rate this Entry

House Speaker John Boehner is apparently doing a lot of work behind the scenes to get things moving on immigration reform legislation in that body. According to a report in Politico, Boehner wants legislation passed by the Judiciary Committee before the July 4th recess (the same deadline as Harry Reid has put to pass the entire bill in the Senate). He then wants a full House vote before the August recess.

Boehner still hasn't decided whether it will be the House bipartisan bill or the Judiciary Committee's Republican-written piecemeal bills that will get to the House floor. Part of that will depend on what sort of reaction the bipartisan bill gets when it is released in a few days. Part may also depend on just how big a margin the Senate bill gets.

It is not going to happen by that time. October or November more likely and it will likely be signed into law sometime next year.
