Tech Industry Targeting Six GOP Fence Sitting Senators

Rate this Entry

There's a lot of talk about how big the majority for immigration reform will be in the Senate. 50+? 60+? More than 70? There doesn't seem to be so much fear about a filibuster as there was before Senator Mitch McConnell threw cold water on the idea. But getting 70 votes changes the dynamic as far as the House is concerned. Speaker Boehner may be saying now that he won't simply bring up the Senate's bill, but if there is a lot of division in the House regarding advancing a bill of their own creation and you've got a Senate bill with more than 2/3 support, then it would be hard to dismiss.

The Hill reports

Tech lobbyists are wooing Sens. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.), Susan Collins
(R-Maine), Jerry Moran (R-Kans.), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), Rand Paul
(R-Ky.) and Rob Portman (R-Ohio) to support the bill.

All have a tech presence in their state or appear open-minded on supporting an overhaul of the country's immigration rules.

Other names that have been floated include Sens. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) and Dean Heller (R-Nev.).

There are a lot of possibilities and I believe you will see passage of some kind of CIR. When the House and the Senate negotiate, they could eliminate the path to citizenship or extend the waiting period from 13 to 15 years. Something is better than nothing and the path to citizenship could be re-visited in 10 years or so, or whenever the Democrats control all 3 branches of government.

Comprehensive Immigration Reform is just a reality show destined to entertain the ignorant masses of this country.

Since the Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF), signed by President George W. Bush on September 18, 2001, the United States government operates under the legal basis of a State of War; therefore, Title 50 of the United States Code (War and National Defense) entered in full motion granting the Executive branch EXTRAORDINARY POWERS to govern by decree if necessary...the current president can effectively bypass Congress and issue an Executive Order putting an end to this nonsense.

It is amazing how Obama comfortably authorized US forces to bomb Libya issuing that order from Air Force One back in March of 2011, and completely disregards the immigration issue.

Open your eyes to reality folks and stop putting attention to mainstream media. Ignorance is the mother of all social diseases.
