No Letup in Anti-Immigrant (and Anti-Jewish) Attacks by Trump Campaign. Roger Algase

Rate this Entry
Update, May 17, 2:35 pm

The Guardian
reports on May 16 that far right Hindu nationalists in India are offering prayers to Donald Trump as the "Savior of Mankind" because of Trump's anti-Muslim attacks, while neo-fascist parties in Europe are also drawing inspiration from him. See, Amana Fontanella-Khan:

How Donald Trump emboldens bigots across the world

http://www.theguardian.com/commentis...ntial-election

Update, May 16, 11:25 am:

AP reports on May 16 that Iran is arresting and jailing models who pose online without headscarves. See:

Iran cracks down on models posing without headscarves online

(Sorry, I do not have a link. Please go to Google.)

America should ask itself whether the best response to this show of hate and intolerance by officials of the Islamic Republic would be for America to become more like Iran by showing similar hate and intolerance toward people who do wear headscarves by banning them from admission to the US purely on the basis of their religion, as one of our major party presidential candidates is proposing to do.

My original post follows:

Any thoughts that Donald Trump's impending nomination might produce a "kinder, gentler" presidential candidate, as I suggested in a post last week about Trump's possibly "mellowing" on immigration policy issues, can be put to rest.

Recent media stories show that Trump's campaign continues to be fueled by attacks against Mexican and Muslim immigrants, and not without a dose of anti-Jewish hatred coming from some of his supporters.

A May 13 Washington Post article details Trump's latest, utterly false, charge that there has been an increase in crime by "illegal" immigrants, most of whom are Mexicans. See:

Donald Trump's unsupported claim that crime is 'through the roof' because of illegal immigration

(Sorry, I do not have a link. Please go to Google or to The Post's website.)

Trump's charge is contradicted by the fact, as pointed out in the above article, that illegal immigration rates at the Southern border in 2015 were at their lowest level since 1972, except for 2011.

The same article, citing relevant crime statistics, also states:

"The vast majority of unauthorized immigrants do not fit Trump's description of aggravated felons, whose crimes include murder."

The Hill
also reports (on May 15), that Trump has launched another scare attack against Syrian refugees, very few of whom have actually been admitted to the US, even in relation to the Obama administration's tiny goal of 10,000. This is compared to 25,000 already admitted to Canada, a much smaller country, and a million Syrian and other mainly Muslim refugees in Germany alone.

For details about Trump's latest attempt to stir up fear and hatred against Syrian refugees, and by extension against all Muslim immigrants, see:

Trump predicts refugees will plan next 9/11.

http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/...plan-next-9-11

Whether continuing to base his campaign on fear and hatred against Latino, Muslim and other minority immigrants in an increasingly diverse America in which white voters continue to shrink as a share of the electorate, and where 87 percent of Latino voters view Trump unfavorably, makes any sense for his campaign, is beyond the scope of these comments. Interested readers can explore this question further in the following article, also in The Hill:

http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/...ly-to-confront

Finally, as a reminder that a campaign which is more openly based on racial or religious prejudice than any other since Richard Nixon's notorious 1970's "Southern Strategy", even including George H.W. Bush's infamous "Willy Horton" ads in 1988, may not necessarily spare members or descendants of older, previously persecuted but now well established immigrant groups from its venom, Huffington Post reports that the pro-Trump site, breitbart.com, has called one of Trump's strongest critics on the right, William Kristol, editor of the conservative Weekly Standard, a "Renegade Jew". See:

http://huffingtonpost.com/entry/brei...b077d4d6f369b2

If the above is any indication, America may look forward to increasing, not diminishing, hysteria and xenophobia directed against members of minority immigrant groups, past and present, coming from Donald Trump and his supporters as November draws closer.

Wow, Roger. How does a random website calling a random guy a "renegade jew" make Trump campaign anti-jewish?? Nevermind, however. Sheldon Adelson has just contributed $100M to Trump campaign - I guess he disagrees with you )) He is a very smart man, by the way, and I'm glad that he is standing by Mr. Trump. This is important!

You writing articles on the website for immigration lawyers - not so much

True, Trump is wrong on almost every issue, but he is wrong with the passion that Hillary Clinton lacks. As a Republican, I like the fact that Trump sometimes changes his mind. He will eventually come around on many of the issues. You are correct on most issues, but your style of presenting the facts does not win converts to your way of thinking. You demonstrate the same hate you complain about from Trump. Unfortunately, it is easier to tell a 30 second lie than take 10 minutes to explain the truth. This applies to both political parties.

With regard to retired INS's comment, it is easy to engage in wishful thinking in the hope that Trump is not really all that bad, that he doesn't mean everything he says, that he will change and become more responsible once he gets into power, that he is outspoken, that he is a successful businessman, that his opponents have their own shortcomings too, etc. All these are just excuses for not recognizing the real danger, not just to America's values as a country of equal opportunity for everyone, regardless of race, religion or skin color, but to our democracy as we know it.

This is the way many dictators, right and left, have been able to seize power. On the left, many people believed that Lenin, Stalin, Mao and Fidel Castro would be great reformers once they took over. On the right, Germans believed that Hitler would "make Germany great again" at a time when that country was in very bad shape, far worse than anything we could imagine in America since the great depression.

This was also the rallying cry for Mussolini, Franco, and more recent dictators in Latin America, Africa, and Asia, as well as neo-fascist parties in Europe.

Many of these dictators or would be dictators have whipped up fear and hatred against unpopular minorities, especially Jews, Muslims and Roma in Europe, or various ethnic or religious groups elsewhere, in order to seize power.

Trump, by exploiting fear and hatred against Latino, Muslim, and to a perhaps lesser extent Asian immigrants, is doing the same thing in America, His threats and bullying of opponents and incitements to violence among his supporters, his support for torture, contempt for international law and plans to use a Gestapo-like "Task Force" to carry out mass deportation a/k/a ethnic cleansing on a scale unprecedented in America are all typical of fascist dictatorships.

This is not to mention "The Wall", something which was once a symbol of communist oppression in Berlin, and before that of Nazi extermination of the Jews (at the Warsaw Ghetto - I am not accusing Trump of advocating mass extermination or genocide - he has never done that - but Walls have histories).

I have nothing personally against Trump, and I am no great fan of Hillary Clinton. But neither she nor any of Trump's former Republican primary opponents would threaten the foundations of our democracy the way that Trump does.

If someone is comfortable with the possibility of America's going fascist, then by all means vote for Trump. He will not disappoint those supporters. I know that these are not kind or friendly words, and it is not my purpose to try to be charming about Donald Trump and the threat he poses to America and the world.

I am only trying to tell the truth, based on the clear record of Donald Trump's own statements and actions, which millions of other Americans also know, including many media figures and more than a few Republican political leaders, but are afraid to say openly because it is not politically expedient to do so.

    False dichotomies.
Better learn world history properly if you pretend to evoke historical events (your ignorance is astonishing and worrying).

Here is one example if you try to evoke the Jewish struggle:
The Transfer Agreement: The Dramatic Story of the Pact Between the Third Reich and Jewish Palestine
    http://www.amazon.com/Transfer-Agreement-25th-Anniversary-Dramatic-Palestine/dp/0914153137
The Transfer Agreement is Edwin Black's compelling, award-winning story of a negotiated arrangement in 1933 between Zionist organizations and the Nazis to transfer some 50,000 Jews, and $100 million of their assets, to Jewish Palestine in exchange for stopping the worldwide Jewish-led boycott threatening to topple the Hitler regime in its first year.

Always remember JUDAISM IS NOT ZIONISM

Mr. Algase, you should limit your articles to immigration issues viewed strictly from a legal standpoint and avoid making historical comparisons if you are not fully acquainted with the facts.
