Famous Russian Immigrant: Trump "Reminds Me Of The Soviet Union". Roger Algase

Rate this Entry
Mikhail Baryshnikov, the famous Russian dancer who defected from the Kirov Ballet in 1974 and became a naturalized US citizen in 1986 has released a video stating that Donald Trump reminds him of "dangerous totalitarian opportunists" who have driven people like him out of their countries, according to an August 16 POLITICO report.

In a video released by an organization backing Hillary Clinton, Baryshnikov said:

"Forty-two years ago I left a country that built walls to come to a place without them. But today, as a citizen of the United States, for the first time, I'm hearing rhetoric that reminds me of the Soviet Union of my youth, where it was a crime, and continues to be a crime, to be different."

Baryshnikov, who says that he has never publicly endorsed a candidate before but is now endorsing Hillary Clinton, stated:

"The America I love welcomes people of all nations, all religions, and supports all forms of human expression. America welcomed me, an immigrant, and that welcome has made my life possible."

He also said:

Hundreds of thousands of people like me have fled from countries led by dangerous totalitarian opportunists like Donald Trump. Don't let that happen to ur beautiful United States of America."

As if to underscore Baryshnikov's warning, Al Baldasaro, an adviser to Trump on veterans affairs stated on July 20 that

"Hillary Clinton should be put in a firing line and shot for treason"

because of her alleged mishandling of the Benghazi incident.

Isn't that what they used to do to political opponents in the Soviet Union?

I will continue to delete comments containing, in whole or in part, expressions of hate toward members of any religious or ethnic group.

This is a discussion site, not a site for hatred or prejudice. While such speech is constitutionally protected, there are many other Internet sites that are more appropriate for such comments.

Roger, did you get the memo on daily Trump criticisms? We are supposed to give it a rest for at least a few days next week. Surely there is something else going on that you could criticize for a few days.

Nolan, you are quite right. There are so many other people criticizing Trump, including numerous respected and experienced former national security experts, many of them Republicans or Republican supporters, who believe that Trump himself would be a "clear and present danger to our country" (as one of them puts it, see link below) that I don't have to carry the entire load by myself. So I suppose I can take a day or two off every now and then.

And if, somehow, Trump's combination of anti-Muslim and anti-Latino bigotry, and his scare tactics over alleged terrorists in our midst (so reminiscent of the McCarthy "commie" and "pinko" scare tactics of the 1950's) are able to get him elected president, no one who is unable to tolerate reading anything negative about our would-be Leader in Chief will have to worry any more.

Anyone who writes anything bad about President Trump may soon be on a one-way trip to Buchenwald or Dachau (sorry, that was a typo - I meant Guantanamo, where Trump has said that he wants to send American citizens, not just foreign ones).

Don't get me wrong, there is a very real terrorist threat, just as the Soviet Communist threat in the McCarthy era was real - something that Mikhail Baryshnikov, who defected and found freedom in America, knows infinitely more about than Donald Trump ever will.

But McCarthy used the Communist threat to create a climate where people were afraid to speak out and where the careers of many innocent, loyal Americans were destroyed.

We must not let Trump use the need to be vigilant about terrorism as an excuse to destroy our democracy and take away America's freedom.

Based on the picture above, it is valid to conclude that Donald Trump truly represents the aspirations of the "Silent Majority" in the United States: Americans that are a race of slobs, obese, addicted to all sorts of prescribed medications, OTC medicines and synthetic vitamins, extremely gullible and unable to think for themselves (trained not to think critically); subhumans that are feed with GMO foods on a daily basis -meals fully responsible for major diseases- and their offspring treated like lab rats by experimenting new vaccines on them all the time.

Without the massive influx of immigrants, this race of subhumans are destined to perish: during the next two decades the United States will need the arrival of at least 200 million newcomers to help paying the gargantuan costs related to the care of these insult-to-humanity people.
