WSJ: Why the Republicans Might Cave in to the AFL-CIO

Rate this Entry
Longtime readers of this blog know that I'm not a Republican, but Republicans - I beg you - channel your inner Ronald Reagan. We know you now want to get a deal on immigration and get it off the table, but since Democrats don't seem willing to stand up to the AFL-CIO's anti-immigrant opposition to a workable, welcoming  program for future generations of immigrants seeking a legal way to come to work for employers who can't find American workers, we are depending on you. The US Chamber, thankfully, is not rolling over on this. Neither should you.

    Mr. Siskind,
With all due respect but why are you giving so much attention to this reality show better known as "Comprehensive Immigration Reform"...why don't you redirect all of your energies in demanding the President of the United States to enact an Executive Order putting an end to this nonsense...Barack Obama is a Constitutional lawyer by profession and he knows better than anybody that he can pass immigration laws without the involvement of Congress UNDER THE GROUNDS OF NATIONAL SECURITY (remember that in legal terms this country is in a state of war; therefore, the Executive branch has extraordinary powers granted by the US Constitution)...and it is fair to say that you, your colleagues and law firms specialized in immigration matters don't need to be lectured about this legal procedure.

Ms. Dunsmore - You are not a regular commenter here so I will remind you of the rules (which are pretty minimal) -

    1. no spam
    2. no personal attacks
    3. no greedy lawyer posts (I consider myself the immigration lawyer anti-defamation society)
    4. no foul language

I also reserve the right to delete the odd bizarre posts that don't fit the above categories but which don't add to the conversation. If you don't like the rules, you're welcome to start your own blog. By the way, others here will attest that I don't mind people who disagree with me just as long as they make their arguments in a civil manner.

Ms. Dunsmore - Now you are making threatening posts. You are welcome to make civil comments presenting your views, but when you cross the line (yes, I set the line as it is MY blog, not yours), then I will remove your posts and, if the behavior continues, I will simply ban a poster (as I have done in the past - albeit in only a handful of instances as regular readers of this blog will confirm). If you want to try again and just stick to making your case, go ahead. Incidentally, you didn't even realize which of my rules you violated with your first post. Think about it.

I hope I dont get banned here...but let me assure you regarding this article...suddenly one of the most racist, bigoted, anti-union and anti-worker Senator Jeff Sessions will become a left wing pro-American worker, pro-union, pro-AFL-CIO the Senate has ever seen once you open your mouth and say...immigration reform...heck he may even masquerade himself as a communist or a Marxist-Leninist if the Chamber of Commerce insists on bringing in "cheap" foreign workers! For that matter, many of his racist constituents in Alabama will end up calling themselves communists if the goal is to stop immigration reform!

Only the legalization aspects have wholehearted support from at least one of the two parties. Would be best to move that forward, and keep the rest of the guest worker and H1B provisions out of CIR.

Guess you have not heard about the filibuster?
