President Donald J. Trump’s 10-point plan to put “America First” includes a pledge to end sanctuary cities, cities that refuse to cooperate with federal immigration officers who are seeking to apprehend and remove undocumented immigrants, by threatening to cut off their federal funds.

....

On Jan. 3, 2017, Representative Lou Barletta (R-Penn) introduced, the Mobilizing Against Sanctuary Cities Act, with six Republican cosponsors.

According to Barletta, too many city mayors think that they are above federal law and place their own ideology ahead of the safety of their residents. His bill will stop that practice by cutting off their federal funding if they continue to refuse to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement.

Does Lou Barletta's bill also have a provision saying that Sanctuary Cities mayors or police chiefs should be sent to Guantanamo, as Trump said he would be "fine" with doing to American citizens during the campaign?

In view of the president's threat in a January 25 tweet to declare martial law in Chicago, whose mayor has proclaimed that city to be a Sanctuary City, is it any surprise that more and more people are beginning to use the F- word in talking about what could happen to America under Donald Trump?

Fortunately, because of Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel's courage n standing up against Trump's threats and bullying, the latest news is that Trump may be offering to dialogue with him.

If this is in fact true, it would be a welcome development. That is the way things are supposed to be decided in a democracy. If Trump catches on to that, it would be a good sign for the entire future of America, not only for immigrant rights.
