    Update: January 26, 1:31 pm:

Mexico's president has cancelled his meeting with Donald Trump over Trump's Wall of Hate, but that should not bother our new president.

He can always meet with Vladimir Putin instead.

    Update, January 26, 11:13 am:

Is Donald Trump mentally stable? Veteran Watergate reporter Carl Bernstein says some Republican officials aren't so sure.

    My original letter appears below:

Those who are concerned about whether Donald Trump is on his way to becoming America's first dictator should take note, above all, of his reactions to the simple truth when he doesn't like it.

The Washington Post, in a chilling January 23 article:

The first days inside Trump's White House: Fury, Tumult and a Reboot,

describes Trump's rage at being confronted with the plain fact than more people marched against him last weekend than attended his inaugural.

    The Post
writes, concerning Trump's reaction to TV images of massive demonstrations against him together with empty space on the Mall during his inauguration:

"...Trump grew increasingly and visibly enraged...

He wanted a fiery public response."

The response soon came, in the form of what The Post called:

"Spicer's resulting statement - delivered in an extended shout and brimming with falsehoods".

Of even greater concern is Trump's insistence on repeating the Big Lie that he lost the popular vote to Hillary Clinton only because millions of "illegal voters" opposed him.

Trump's attacks on Muslims and immigrants are part and parcel of this march toward dictatorship, just as the attacks on Jews were essential to the rise to power of another authoritarian politician in Germany 85 years ago.

Ruth Ben Chait writes in The Atlantic on January 22 about Trump's:

"...blanket denunciation of all non-Trump information..."

    She also describes:

"the onset of a new era in which truth is what Trump wants it to be."

This includes, as she makes clear:

"his targeting of Muslims, Mexicans, immigrants and others as dangers to the nation."

    https://www.theatlantic.com/politics...memory/514004/

To be sure, America has not become a fascist dictatorship yet.

Freedom to speak out, to oppose the disturbing indications of Trump's use of the anti-immigrant sentiment which helped so much in his winning the White House as a means of seizing absolute power, still exists.

But Trump has only been in office for four days as this comment is written.

Will America be ruled by a strongman's falsehoods, intimidation and repression for the next four (or more) years?

According to multiple news reports, Donald Trump will announce on January 25 that he is getting ready to take America back almost 100 years to the racial/religious "national origin" immigration quotas of 1924 which were intended to bar Catholics, Jews, Middle Easterners, Asians and Africans from the US.

According to the reports, he will do this by banning immigrants from seven Muslim countries of the Middle East and Africa - and refugees from all over the world - using "national security" as a pretext, just as America once used the discredited racial "Eugenics" ideology to bar immigrants from most parts of the world other than the "Nordic" countries of Western Europe.

Trump is also expected to announce that he will start building his Wall of Hate along the Mexican border, just as the Germans once built their infamous Wall in the Warsaw Ghetto (for different and infinitely more sinister purpose than Trump's wall, to be sure, but motivated by similar ideology of one group of people being naturally superior to another).

Moreover, by barring refugees from the entire world from coming to America under the cynical and inhuman pretext that they cannot be "vetted" properly, and in utter contempt of America's legal and moral obligations under international law, Trump is also moving one step closer to turning America into an Orwellian totalitarian society where only the rich and the powerful, such as the energy, banking and fast food billionaires have any rights, and the most vulnerable members of our society, including not only immigrants and African-Americans, but also the white working people and union members who voted for Trump, will have none at all.

This first week of Donald Trump's America may turn out to be one of the saddest, most horrifying, in the entire history of the United States - that is, except for the remaining weeks, months and years to come.

And there are more signs that Trump is not losing any time in marching America toward a Vladimir Putin style dictatorship - more arrests of journalists covering the weekend protests on felony charges

    http://www.alternet.org/news-amp-pol...uration-unrest

and, most frightening of all, Trump's call for a "major investigation" into "illegal" voting in the presidential election.

    http://www.politico.com/story/2017/0...d-tweet-234151

There can be little doubt what Trump means by "illegal voting" - anyone who voted for Hillary Clinton.

How can "we make America great again" by denying welcome, protection and aid to desperate refugees and immigrants? How will walling us in "make us great"?

Why does our President make his executive orders without first consulting our elected officials? Can anyone refuse to carry out these orders? Does Mr. Trump not care that his recent orders make us uglier Americans that we already are?

Contrary to the loud racists who make news, there are many more of us who are willing and compassionate enough to reach out to the many peoples needing us. We do have the resources and generosity to do so, often at our own personal expense of time, energy, wisdom and money. The newcomers and long time immigrants who need help now will be the ones who WILL make our nation great if we let them!

In answer to the above letter of Carrie Ruel-Flores, and based on Trump's whirlwind of authoritarian executive orders this past week, culminating in the cruel and inhuman ban on immigrants from certain Muslim countries and ("temporarily" - ha, ha, ho, ho) on refugees of every faith and background from around the world, it is clear that America's immigration system is being hijacked by a one-man agenda of hate which can, and if not checked, will, inevitably lead America to dictatorship, just as happened in Germany eight decades ago.
