Matthew Kolken on Deportation And Removal

Border Patrol: Iranian Doctor Detained for Reasons Unrelated to Travel Ban

Rate this Entry
Via FOX News:

The Iranian cancer researcher who was detained at Boston's Logan International Airport along with his family and sent back to his home country on Tuesday was not a result of President Trump's travel ban, a spokeswoman from U.S. Customs and Border Partol said.

Stephanie Malin, the spokeswoman, said Moshen Dehnavi and his family were detained for “reasons unrelated” to Trump’s executive order. She said the stop was based on information discovered during the agency’s review. She did not elaborate.

For my own additional perspective on this, with links to some real news sources, not just administration propaganda mouthpieces such as Fox News, see my July 12 ilw.com comment:

Trump May Not Be Able to Make Russia Scandal Go Away, But He Can Stop an Iranian Harvard Cancer Researcher From Entering US.

I didn't offer any commentary, and merely reported what was stated by a CBP spokesperson.

But here you go Roger... since you take issue with the source: From CBS: "Malin said the Dehnavis family's detention was for "reasons unrelated" to President Trump's executive order on travelers from six predominantly Muslim countries. She said the stop was based on information discovered during the agency's review. She didn't elaborate."

And incidentally, I'm shocked that you didn't reference John the Baptist. It has become your calling card.

None of my comments (including my admittedly over-repeated references to John the Baptist, which are not meant to offend anyone's religious views - my apologies to anyone who might have been offended) are intended to imply any lack of respect for Matt, whose activities in protecting the rights of people caught up in our deportation system are second to no one and deserves the support and praise of everyone who is interested in any way with, or involved with, immigration.
