SKILLED WORKER VISA BACKERS PUSH WHITE HOUSE FOR ADMINISTRATIVE SOLUTIONS
While Congress remains paralyzed in dealing with immigration issues and another H-1B blackout about to begin, supporters of skilled worker immigration are pushing the Bush Administration to look at solutions that don't require legislation. One proposal would involve increasing the time foreign students can work in practical training following their completion of US university programs. The plan would be to increase Optional Practical Training from one year to 29 months. Because this proposal focuses on graduates of US schools, the measure is likely to draw less opposition from anti-H-1B groups since the professionals are American-trained and the US would be retaining talent developed in this country.
Roy sheds crocodile tears once more to kids not getting healthcare while opposed completely to any increase to H1B cap to let more doctors in. He is ready to sacrifice the lives of all those poor kids so that Oracle doesn't commit the sin of a hiring a US-trained foreign student as an entry-level developer ( how should Oracle hire him Roy? As a CIO?)
Most of the research Roy refers are the fake ones done by John Miano ( former PG honcho) for an anti-immigrant group 'Center for Immigration Studies'. You can find the study along with a review of a white-supremacist hate book by CIS president.It also includes original (meaning fake) research done by Kim Berry [current PG honcho] and posted on VDARE, a white supremacist hategroup.
Roy claims these papers have more credibility than NFAP reports.

It's funny you say that. We have BLS data supporting flat job growth. We have reams of court documents supporting fraud and abuse. We have immigrants suing employers - complaining of abuse. We have LCA data indicating that the top sponsors of the program are Indian offshoring firms. We have documented hundreds of "H-1b only need apply" ads. We have more LCA data indicating below par wages.
You have a few CEOs and bogus NFAP papers. Papers that exclude the top users of H-1b visas because they aren't in the S&P 500.
It isn't me that has a problem substantiating my claims. You guys are relying heavily on a misinformation campaign by corporate lobbyists. Really, lying is your only hope. The truth is on our side.

Not if we give doctors preference.
Also, the models don't actually count towards the cap. They have an exemption as I understand. If I am wrong on that point, we need to fix that. Models don't have special skills that I am aware of. I watched Zoolander and wasn't impressed.

Oh thats nice. That means all the top models are guaranteed a visa , and some poor doctor has to fight for a spot. What about the highly paid financial types who have used fancy derivatives math to predict the future, and landed us here.

Yes, but there are just a handfull of "Heidi Klums". There are 85,000 visas under the cap and thousands of doctors who could help treat our poor and rural patients.
Oracle/Infosys/Wipro/and Co. should really stop doing things that ultimately deny our kids the healthcare they need.
What's more important - that Oracle get their next junior level developer or that the Children's hospital gets a highly skilled doctor for their burn unit?
The program should stop turning away doctors so that Hoffman can exploit cheap labor pools. Shame on him. The health of our children is so much more important! We can't allow the children to suffer any longer!

Roy, you should go out more often and see how things work out in the real world. Nobody is going to adopt your idealistic utopian proposals any time soon. The guy just wants to be able to hire his PhD's and he doesn't really care about the fashion models as long as they're not in his way.

Probably top models like Heidi Klum make more money than most doctors. Doctors in poorer/rural areas even less. So, PG wants to fill the country with fashion models and cosmetic surgeons in rich ares, while poor patients suffer. Great going PG.

Hoffmans policy may not be perfect, but it's still way better than Kim Berry's hare-brained idea about auctioning H1B off to the highest bidder, that is replace USCIS with Christie's.

I want to touch on something Oracle's president has to say about the subject of h-1b visas:

OK, so my response is that what will changing the number of H-1b visas do to change the things that make the visa "surreal"? If you don't change the fundemental way in which the selection process is done (doctors over fashion models) you are still left with the same situation. Just more of it.
So his logic is severely flawed. Nothing he suggests addresses the problem he presents. Aside from increasing odds, the sitatuation remains. He is a smart man, so I assume that he doesn't want to fix the problem. He wants to fix HIS problem - which is access to cheap and exploitable labor.
