Stop feeding the troll LANLW. He always confuses his own thoughts and arguments to the point where it is pointless to debate with him.

Legal and no longer waiting,
>You need to either stop whining and suck it up, or move somewhere more immigrant friendly. End of story.
No it is not end of story and we don't have to suck it up because legals are law abiding, tax-paying (most important aspect) residents. Legals can and should raise the point at blogs or to government or wherever its appropriate.
If legals just suck it up, then antiis will just shut everything down unethically (but take away all the tax money or money from social security & medicare from legals).
Anyway, I guess we have discussed enough on this subject.

Brad, you don't believe in open borders, that means that you believe your are a guest in this country - and not everything is availble to guests despite the number of visas on their hands. You need to either stop whining and suck it up, or move somewhere more immigrant friendly. End of story.

>You got your papers from the Federal government - go ask them to give you a driver's licence.
Exactly...This is what I have been telling all the while - bureaucratic hassles upto the point of frustration. Only state gives Drivers license...not Federal. Now if state's DMV database is not in sync with USCIS or Federal database, its somehow the legal immigrant's the mistake and the legal immigrant needs to visit some 3 different offices for a simple driver's license. This is ever after going by book all the time and paying taxes, social security and medicare.
Posted by: Brad_sk | May 06, 2008 at 08:53 AM
At the end of the day, the state has every right to deny foreign nationals it's driver licence. You got your papers from the Federal government - go ask them to give you a driver's licence.

Brad -- I tried once stating what you said to LANLW and he has blinders on, so you are better off utilizing your time somewhere else..

>And what does this have to do with driving? Absolutely nothing.
Exactly...so the state should not even discriminate legals for giving driver license as long as all records are in order.
>Absolutely. And it also has the right to give benefits to immigrants, like driver's licenses.
Again exactly...It should either completely deny or give it based on proper documentation (since Driver's license is also used as ID). Not harass them through bureaucratic channels.
>why should anyone care how you are being treated? When you become a citizen, you will get your driver's license.
Exactly...that why I AM caring and raising my point. Also which rule book did you read saying Drivers License is only for citizens?
>There is nothing wrong with that according to your way of thinking.
No it is...No legal signs any document while getting visa or green card (through legal channels) saying he gives up all his rights to be treated fairly or signs any document saying he will go through hell to get a basic drivers license.
>Going by your own logic why illegals should be given citizenship immediately without any tests?
Hmm…where did I say that? You seem to be making up making my arguments too (just like the stupid caste thing) and then argue against it yourself. I hope you are just lying and not going through some psychological disorder of arguing against self.

""Because legals pay taxes and go by rules just like any citizen. "
And what does this have to do with driving? Absolutely nothing. You taxes is the payment for having that job, period. You may drive with your country's license.
"Legals earn a living by taking a job LEGALLY "
And why in the hell their work authorization means that a state needs to give tham a driver's license?
"US has all rights/power to stop legal immigration too. "
Absolutely. And it also has the right to give benefits to immigrants, like driver's licenses.
"But its wrong to make one go through all kinds of hassles for drivers license AFTER letting them in LEGALLY and maintaining legal status."
There is nothing wrong with that according to your way of thinking. You only care about yourself, you do not need to care how other people are treated - why should anyone care how you are being treated? When you become a citizen, you will get your driver's license.
I am not giving you you my opinion - I am just using your paradigm to answer your own questions.
"
Going by your own logic why illegals should be given citizenship immidiately without any tests ?

>Oh, I see it - you think of the world as divided into the casts, like the royals and the untouchables. You don't care about the treatment of the untouchables, but you consider yourself a royal who needs to be treated accordingly, and anything less than that is a total travesty, of course.
No, I see the world as divided b/w tax paying and going by law vs one which doesn't on this matter of Driver's License (or green card or citizenship going forward). Now it looks like you want me to think the world as divided on caste because you are mentioning it right out of nowhere. Hmmm..whats your evil motive here?
Posted by: Brad_sk | May 05, 2008 at 04:10 PM
> Why should this country give you a driver's license?
Because legals pay taxes and go by rules just like any citizen. Theres no clause on visa/green card saying no drivers license or go through bureaucratic hell to get drivers license which is a basic necessity in America.
>If so, what are you doing in here taking an American job?
Legals earn a living by taking a job LEGALLY - surprised you don't know the answer. If you think theres fraud, get those employers/employees arrested - topic for different thread.
Finally, open borders is totally different from set number of LEGAL visas and allowing people in through that. US has all rights/power to stop legal immigration too. But its wrong to make one go through all kinds of hassles for drivers license AFTER letting them in LEGALLY and maintaining legal status.

JoeF,
> Anti-immigrants don't want ANY immigrants, neither illegal NOR legal. So, you should complain about the antis hijacking the process
Agreed. My point below is towards them for not distinguishing b/w the two.
>And as an aside, as an immigrant myself (now a US citizen), I do know the process all too well
So you might have had the drivers license for quite some time now and SAVE has been here only since last few years. So there is a good chance that you do not the process here...
Legal and no longer waiting,
>I am not even mentioning the driver licenses here.
Thats why I am mentioning it.
>Now, you tell me how you think a Mexican roofer or a landscaper will be able to accomplish the same and also fit under 5,000 unskilled...
Because he/she would have a stole SSN...but why should I care? I am talking about legals going by law and paying taxes, social security and Medicare. Why should there be a difference b/w a legal immigrant and a citizen when it comes to Driver's license. I am not asking for voting rights here - that is correctly reserved for citizens. Also I am not asking for preferential (positively) treatment for legals- Just mentioning the pathetic treatment for going by law and this sub par treatment starts right from Driver's License.
>and tell me if you think illegals have it easier.
Sorry, not my concern... I am not big proponent of open borders either.

"CHC wants nothing less than citizenship for all the undocumented and their extended families ."
Huh???? This is just another extreme that shows your ignorance about the facts covered with a healthy dose of spin.
Not only CHC have given up on the citizenship piece, them have also given up on the path to permanent residence, and now only pursue temporary 5-year status for the undocumented.
Posted by: Legal and no longer waiting | May 05, 2008 at 03:12 PM
Both sides are equally extreme in these debates. Anti dont want any one else whether legal or illegal. CHC wants nothing less than citizenship for all the undocumented and their extended families .

Brad,
"Just try to get a drivers license in states like Colorado where SAVE is in effect and you will know what I am talking."
That is the effect of the anti-immigrants lobbying. Anti-immigrants don't want ANY immigrants, neither illegal NOR legal.
So, you should complain about the antis hijacking the process.
And as an aside, as an immigrant myself (now a US citizen), I do know the process all too well.
Posted by: JoeF | May 05, 2008 at 01:41 PM
Brad, since I prepared all of my EB documents myself, I may have some small idea about the process. Now, you tell me how you think a Mexican roofer or a landscaper will be able to accomplish the same and also fit under 5,000 unskilled labor annual quota, while also serving out his 10-year inadmissibility bar abroad, and tell me if you think illegals have it easier. I am not even mentioning the driver licences here.

Legal and no longer waiting,
I do know that 1.2M immigrants get green cards every year. But do you know the process? I am not asking for green cards in 6 months of applying. I am not even asking for green cards within any specific number of years of applying. I am saying that process if extremely bureaucratic and legals are being treated like cowherd for going by rules and paying taxes and social security.
Just try to get a drivers license in states like Colorado where SAVE is in effect and you will know what I am talking. I am not being objective, you are being too superficial like a cheap politician.
Posted by: Brad_sk | May 05, 2008 at 10:00 AM
Brad, 1.2M legal immigrants get green cards every year, majority of them through adjustment of status. Those are the facts, and if you want to forget about them, it just highlights how objective you are.

Ali,
You are right, It is very much wrong to show solidarity to other country by displaying their flag when you are demanding US citizenship. The point Greg's making here is that not all anti-immigration activism is valid/based on sound thoughts. Definitely same argument goes against many of pro-immigration activism.
Of course, the biggest loser in all these is the LEGAL immigrant who goes by books and pays taxes and still struggles to even get a Driver's License, forget about green card or citizenship.
Posted by: Brad_sk | May 05, 2008 at 08:47 AM
Now, why not show some of the pictures from the illegal aliens and their supporters, such as those with foreign flags over or above the American flag--when the American flag was shown at all?
Posted by: Ali | May 05, 2008 at 08:34 AM
LOL.
I always love how the antis expose themselves...
They should invest in a dictionary, but they probably have never seen a bookstore from the inside...
