Well said.
He's a "ratings whore", and finding nice things to say about particular types of immigration, something even Tom Tancredo did, is just not something Mr. Dobbs thinks will drive any ratings.
Fox News is quite pro-immigration compared to CNN, in large part due to "the Dobbs Factor" and Fox's international affiliations.

I'm not sure how many have posted here who are actually American IT professionals, but I am one. The "cheap labor" comments are completely justified in regards to the outsourcing firms who employ these foreigners. I know that on a first-hand basis. U.S. companies utilize these companies such as Infosys, Wipro and Cognizant as their primary vendors. The result is an American IT consultant working for a U.S. firm gets let go because they are undercut by one of the aforementioned compaines. Issuing even more H-1B visas will completely devastate what is left of middle-class America in regards to the IT profession. American IT professionals appreciate Lou Dobbs looking out for middle-class America.

"One example is his constant reference to H1-B visas as being a way to bring "cheap" labor into the US. As all immigration practitioners know, H1-B individuals are anything but cheap labor.."

We already pay $3.50/lb of tomato because of opposition to cheap labor from Dobbs, Tancredo and others. We cannot afford to make ends meet due to inflation and soaring gas prices. I know Dobbs and Tancredo are rich and hence would be able to afford even a $10/lb of tomato while most of us poor folk cannot. Would Messrs. Dobbs or Tancredo be willing to subsidize us to offset the higher prices as a result of higher wages we now have to pay by keeping Mexicans out? Any help we can get from a kind philanthropists such as Dobbs and Tancredo would go a long way in alleviating the situation. Please Mr. Dobbs subsidize us using your wealth you have amassed through demagoging foreigners.

Well done Greg...
I have written emails over emails to CNN asking them to put a stop to this continous spewing of hate by Lou Dobbs to the american people who are basically clueless when it comes to the finer details of US immigration laws. One example is his constant reference to H1-B visas as being a way to bring "cheap" labor into the US. As all immigration practitioners know, H1-B individuals are anything but cheap labor --most are highly paid individuals because of their Bachelor or Master degree educational level required by law to qualify for the visa-now lets get real-who in their right mind with that kind of education would be willing to uproot themselves from their country to come to the US to earn peanuts and become "cheap" labor as Lou Dobbs would have us believe. Besides the H1-B visa stipulates that the salary has to at least meet the prevailing wage to get approved. These kind of comments are lies and certainly mislead the American public as to the real facts. CNN needs to get rid of this guy FAST-- next year with a new administration it may not be quite as trendy anymore for CNN to have Lou Dobbs on the air-lets hope he finally gets the boot sooner than later - he is just about as unamerican as it gets.

I watched Lou Dobbs show on several occasions, He spits out venom against immigrants and immigration like no other newsman does. He categorizes H1B workers as low skilled and low paid who take away American jobs. His portrayal of legal immigration clearly shows he is interested in attracting viewers who he thinks are idiots basically. Americans tend to view the glass half full, these constant tirades by Dobbs is not only diminishing his newsmanship, it also brings CNN down.

I am very disappointed that despite the fact that exports have kept this country out of recession, the Bush administration has done nothing to counter Lou Dobbs. This is the best opportunity to counter his arguments.

Secondly, while Lou Dobbs has said that he wants jobs for Americans, he has done everything in his power to make sure that jobs stay out of America. He fought against Dubai Ports investment in US ports. He now questions job creating Sovereign Wealth Funds in the name of US sovereignty. Needless to say, the Dubai Ports fiasco caused considerable damange to the US reputation and started the collapse of the US dollar and spike in oil prices which continues even as I write and I truly do not know where all this will end. Will we have 1 Euro = $2US or 1 pound = $3 US..will oil prices spike to $200 or even $300? The damage done by Lou Dobbs and his ilk is still continuing to this minute.

My favorite line from Lou Doubb's 'rebuttal' is this one:

"As for other cases cited by Mr. Siskind, who, by the way is, as you might guess, an immigration lawyer..."

I like the straw-man he builds there. Psst, people of America. Greg Siskind is an Immigration Lawyer. Don't listen to him! He's only saying things because he wants to cash in!

It's like Old Man Lou is attempting to convince people that they shouldn't listen to immigrants OR immigration lawyers when it comes to the topic of immigration.

I mean, pfft, what do THEY know about immigration anyhow?

Plain and simple, Lou Dobbs is an idiot, and so are the people that subscribe to his points of view. High ratings only confirm what is common knowledge, there are indeed millions of idiots all around. How else could you explain some of the things that happen in this world?

"And while you say you support more legal immigration "when appropriate" your coverage indicates that "appropriate" is only when a certain place freezes over."

No. Appropriate means white skin.

He could use Greg's "Immigrant of the day" feature...
Lots of examples of the good things immigrants bring to this country.

But of course, you are right that pigs will fly before he would do that.

Lou Dobbs has no problems with foreign actors displacing potential American actors becuase they happen to be mostly white. By keeping silent on this issue he is being very supportive. Of course, FAIR, CIS and other organizations have no problem with white immigration to this country. Overnight let more Bollywood actors from India show up in Hollywood, his tune might change. Then again, Dobbs is not very bright. As most of the Indian actors are light skinned and some near white, he may think that they are white and keep his mouth shut.

So now the challenge to Dobbs is to show us that he is not anti-legal-immigrant. He could do this by having one entire show that makes clear the benefits of legal immigration to the country. That should be a breeze since this great country was built through immigration. There are innumerable immigrants that he could profile to make the obvious case.

Of course he will never do this as he would offend all the rednecks that watch his show and his ratings could suffer. Does this make him some kind of ratings demagogue?

"It is a mystery to my why CNN allows him to continually damage the network's credibility. "

Unfortumately, it's not a mystery at all. He has high ratings, on many days hihger than any other program on the network. There are a lot of people gullible enough to believe in this pile-o-cr@p.

Dobbs' critics, including columnist James K. Glassman of the conservative American Enterprise Institute think tank, have accused him of inciting xenophobia.[25] Others have accused him of anti-Hispanic racism, a charge he denies[26] and one which he has said offends him deeply, as his wife, Debi, is Mexican American.[27]

Good work on exposing Dobbs. It is a mystery to my why CNN allows him to continually damage the network's credibility. Can his ratings be THAT good.

Excellent work as usual, Mr. Siskind, in your exposure of this guy as just an anti-immigrant windbag. The fact he felt compelled to try and rebut your research findings shows that you hit a raw nerve. Thanks again for keeping this guy honest.

Greg, not only were you right on (as Dobbs obviously felt since he jumped to his own defense with such vigor) but Dobbs seems to ignore the plight of US farmers, the mainstay of our food economy. They are crying about rotting crops because there is no one to pick the lettuce etc. With rising food costs because of fuel increases, the fact that produce can't be picked because there are no workers to pick them seems to have gone right out of his little old head. It's not just the food industry. Resort areas (the tourist industry still important) can't get enough people to work in their resorts, restaurants, summer places etc. And wouldn't we all like to see what would happen if the dear Mr. Dobbs had to go the hospital only to discover there are no nurses.

Good job, Greg! You are right, Loony does not deserve your time.

TLB:
"Most people aren't going to think of H-1B or H-2A/B as legal immigration but simply as "guest" programs."

Of course, that is only YOUR assertion. Most people that I have met, while on H1, never thought of me being here in a "guest" program. They consider the H1 part of immigration. And that's in fact what it is nowadays, a stepping stone towards immigration. Like it or not, THAT's the reality, not the idiocy and xenophobia of one loony TV "personality." Mr. Dobbs is a shame to CNN.

Oh, and in case you wonder: I am an immigrant, a US citizen who originally came to this country on the H1. Guess that makes me one of the people Mr. Dobbs (and Mr. Tankredo) don't want here... Well, tough luck...

Greg,

Congratulations! It's great to see someone pass up a TV appearance in order to stick to their principles.

TLB,

"chain migration"

Immigrants are human beings and have families just like you and Lou. To borrow from Senator Menendez they are not paper clips!!

TLB - I'm sure you're the first of many Dobbs defenders who will post here so I'll make the point again. The H-1B is the major guest worker program for skilled workers. Most of the stories on H-1Bs discuss why they are taking jobs away from American workers. And that's the essence of the anti-legal-immigration argument when it comes to skilled worker immigration. If Dobbs was attacking the program because employers were violating the law, that's one thing. But that's not it. He's basically making a protectionist argument. That's his right, but then don't try and pretend you're pro-legal-immigration. Any argument that is based on taking jobs away from Americans when it comes to legal immigration categories is a protectionist one and should be properly labeled as anti-immigration. Whether you think that this is a fair and just argument to make is an entirely separate issue. I think people can come by that view honestly even if I disagree. But they should be honest in labeling their views. At least Tom Tancredo is honest in that regard, unlike Mr. Dobbs.

I used a macro to remove the stories in the "Stories criticizing legal immigration" section which deal with H-1B or asylum. That reduced the number in that section from 96 to 20. The remaining deal with H-2A and B, L-1, chain migration, and others. Most people aren't going to think of H-1B or H-2A/B as legal immigration but simply as "guest" programs. And, there doesn't appear to be anything directly opposing legal immigration in general.

Wonderful job, Greg. All truth and nothing but truth.

Nice job Greg, this guy abuses his media outlet to miss-inform people on this important issue glad to see that you can set the record straight.

Way to go Greg! Dou Loggs is a bigot and a hypocrite. Come on CNN, it's time to put his program out if it's misery.

Greg, You ROCK!! Absolutely. Tell it like it is!!

Love it, you rock Mr. Siskind very well written.

Lou Doggs knows the wheels of his show are coming off. Come next summer, if CIR is done, his ratings will go down as the regular rant does not make sense to Americans. No wonder he is building up his radio base so that he can move on to rant some where else. The end is near, He sees it

Excellent rebuttal!

Greg, you're a hero!!
