IMMIGRANT OF THE DAY: LUKASZ ZBYLUT - STUDENT

Zbylut Talk about our country lucking out. Lukasz Zbylut arrived only five years ago from his native Poland as a seventh grader who didn't speak any English. The Brooklyn teen was featured on the Today Show because he did something quite remarkable. He applied to seven Ivy League schools for college and was admitted to all seven. Which school landed Lukasz? Harvard.

Good luck Lukasz!

Hat tip to reader Nelson for telling me about Lukasz.

I CANNOT, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PRONOUNCE HIS NAME, but As the son of Irish immigrants, who grew up in NYC and went on to success, this kid is my new hero. I live out on the West Coast now, where parents seems to pay very little attention to academics and only concern with their kids potential for a sports scholarship. While I played varsity football and wrestled in high school (Stuyvesant HS), it was the competition and priorities of foreign born students that always reminded me that academics was the ticket to success, while sports was a good form of exercise that provided character. Good luck young man, and thanks for setting an example for all Americans to realize there are opportunities everywhere if you make sacrifices.

This little guy is really something.

Shall we mention that he is a legal immigrant?
