CANADA SEEKS TO LURE DISSATISFIED HIGHLY SKILLED IMMIGRANTS

A helpful reader sent me this tip. While our Congress buries its head in the sand and refuses to update our antiquated skilled immigration system, our neighbors to the north are seeking to take advantage of the paralysis. This is just embarrassing.

George Chell's comment about Alberta being racist is ridiculous. And his story about a white man and Asian woman not being allowed to enter a club together is equally stupid and uninformed. That would be against Canadian law and the place would be shut down.
I have lived in Alberta and it's a beautiful province with wonderful people of all races.

If you cannot stay in the US, do move to Canada. There are better Canadian places than Alberta if you can find employment..the Maritimes has among the nicest people in the world. Alberta is a bit racist, no doubt and they generally dont like minorities. In very few places in the world they frown upon white male/Asian female couples. Alberta is one of them. A Singaporean woman married to a white Scottish person moved to Nova Scotia after living in Alberta for a year. They were not allowed to enter clubs when they went out together. He was allowed in if he went with his white buddies.

However, the Maritimes are completely different and definitely worth looking into. What Alberta is doing is nothing new. Some Asian countries and Australia has been doing this for the past decade. Only thing they wont blatantly announce it to the rest of the world and want to keep quiet about it...as they do not want their competition (US) to get wind of it.

Canada has a fairly long history of targeting H visa holders. After I traveled to Canada a few years ago (I was on H1 back then), I got a nice letter from the Detroit consulate saying that they hope I enjoyed Canada, and by the way they are holding an informational session about Canadian immigration, so please sign up if you are interested.

I live in Alberta. It is an extremely racist province. Some of the past Jim Crow laws of the US are practised in this province..in private clubs.

Minorities with western country citizenships are routinely harrassed at the Edmonton and Calgary International Airports. An Asian American working for a multilateral org was harrassed and detained at Edmonton Airport for over three hours recently.

Anyhow, for people who can stomach all that, plenty of jobs here. I am sure Asians on H1-B living in the US South face the same experience although not as blatant.
