Don't be so sure George. There is a surge of "brown pride" among the younger generation. If anything, not punishing an American kid would cause an aggresive press backlash and considerable anger in the populace.
Note that Dove, chose for its "face in India" a dusky Indian (NRI)actress(Reshma Shetty).

I hope Clueless Adi and AJ are right. Singapore did not change any of its English names...Raffles Place is still Raffles Place, Lloyds Road is still Lloyds Road..but despite white skin worship among some sections of the population (especially Chinese women), Singapore government treats everyone fairly. A few years ago, they stood firm and caned an American guy for vandalism. In today's India the white American kid would never have been prosecuted.

I agree with AJ. Still a young "country" even if the civilization is old. New prosperity will take time to show its gains and things will change. On the whole though, India if anything, is showing new openness to accepting foreign workers and becoming a more global society.
Posted by: clueless adi | July 19, 2009 at 04:27 PM
Easy, George. India is decolonising, but slowly. For example, it is just within the last 20 years or so that it has become acceptable to revert to using Indian names for cities and places. Even then, Bangalore did not become Bengaluru until 2007, while Dilli continues to be called Delhi and Bharat is known as India.
White privilege will surely die out in India as the neo-colonial elite are replaced and shown up to be a poor imitation of the real thing.

I have been the number one critic of not too many foreigners in Hollywood, but the fact that racists at CIS or FAIR have little or nothing to say about it while they rant and rave about 65,000 H1Bs admitted each year. True, Aishwarya Rai is now acting in Hollywood, but she looks white and the ignoramuses at FAIR and CIS cannot tell the difference. ( a few years ago a Tamil from Malaysia who looked black was assaulted in Southern Virginia for being with his Sindi wife who looked white, because they looked like a typical black-white couple).
Most Bollywood actors look white. Now, when Hollywood starts admitting Indian actors who look white, Bollywood is moving away..recently some major roles were given to unknown white actors because they happen to be white and whiteness sells in India. Movie producers have said as much. I have relatives back in India who watch crap because white women are in the movies.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/india/5650003/British-actresses-flock-to-Bollywood.html
But, even that is not the issue. I have problems with a few Aussie women who have been given rolls in the Indian movie despite the fact that they have told friends that Indians and other non-whites dont belong in Australia....I confirmed this during my trip there last month. I really have problems with some English models who are making a living making $1,700 a day belonging to the British National Party and want Indians and other non-whites deported from UK. Then I think...what would I do if I were in the English or Aussie women's shoes..then I come to the conclusion that if I were treated like royalty for my white skin as they do in Bollywood and India, I would be racist and exclusive too (just like Prince Harry) and want everyone else excluded from my country! The problem is Indians by worshipping these women and exclusively giving rolls to these women (and not including other foreigners such as Chinese or Japanese) are playing right into the hands of CIS and FAIR...who whenever Hollywood lets in more dark skinned actors can argue that white actors are the best..as Bollywood one of the two premier movie industries in the world equates white skin with talent. It gives moral authority for folks at CIS and FAIR (not to speak of VDare, American Patrol and Numbers USA) to be what they are...racists! In other words, Bollywood confers white privilege and gives cover to orgainzations such as CIS and FAIR.

"Again it is need of script that needs hiring of white people. It has nothing to do with appeasing whites in bollywood. "
you are quite clearly clueless. those roles are "created" in order to bring in white faces. lagan was ages ago. since then plenty of movies including some recently released have white faces for no reason whatsoever.
AND i resent your statement that i am cheap labor. speak for yourself. i would say you have low self esteem if i believed you to be an indian immigrant, but i do not. you are just an imposter. and a clueless one at that.

"Bollywood has a good brand recognized worldwide, it does not need whites to bulid up the brand...it only needs whites to get poor Indians who cannot get three square meals a day to go watch a movie in the theater!"
Again it is need of script that needs hiring of white people. It has nothing to do with appeasing whites in bollywood. Movie lagaan needed white actors to portray British and hence they were paid accordingly. Bollywood movies are very highly dependent on their main actors and I am yet to see any major white person getting that role. Sub-ordinate roles are pretty much on side lines and in some cases where script demands producers do hire whites from other countries.

Either train Americans or bring folks from abroad...
http://news.yahoo.com/s/time/20090718/us_time/08599191145500
Now we dont see Charles "we need to train more Americans if there is a shortage" Grassley, FAIR, CIS or others protesting budget cuts which will make us more dependent on foreigners,do we? We dont see Kirkorian or Stein protesting these budget cuts now, do we...which makes one rationally conclude that neither Kirkorian or Stein care much about training Americans. They are a bunch of racist who want to keep America white. At least Pat Buchanan is honest.

"Indian IT companies hire Americans graduates(whites) to work on their Indian campus. These interns are paid much higher than any other Indian fresh graduate."
Are they hiring whites from MIT or Princeton and paying them much higher than an IIT graduate from India? If so, fine, I have no problem. If on the other hand they hire whites from Alabama or Mississippi and pay them much higher wages than an Indian IIT graduate, it is affirmative action for whites, or put simply, white bias or conferring white privilege. I am afraid it is the latter. If you argue that whites build Indian brand it is no different from whites getting into US colleges through legacy. The quality of Indian IIT is much higher than that of anyone graduating from most US engineering schools. IIT is in the top 25 engineering schools in the world, while Alabama does not reach top 100. If I were a white from U of Alabama hired over an Indian IIT graduate and paid much higher, I would be a racist too...it is no different than conferring what some Americans call white privilege..and Bollywood has a good brand recognized worldwide, it does not need whites to bulid up the brand...it only needs whites to get poor Indians who cannot get three square meals a day to go watch a movie in the theater!

"Indian companies are trying to build their brand and see hiring whites as investment, while American companies are hiring for cheap labor."
What? Whitewashing Bollywood? So, if an US corporation hires an Indian, it must be always cheap labor, right? Cant be that Indian is better than an American? Go check your facts before you write.

"Also the same logic of the British and Aussie actresses in Bollywood, India. It is ok for white British actresses to work in India making $1700 a day but not ok for Indians to work in the UK."
These are very specialised roles in which script needs white male/female. $1700 a day for very few days is not a big amount of money in bollywood.
Indian IT companies hire Americans graduates(whites) to work on their Indian campus. These interns are paid much higher than any other Indian fresh graduate. Indian companies invest in these individuals from foreign countries to build their company as a global brand and future goodwill candidates. IBM on the other hand pays the same under their "project match" scheme to Americans. Indian companies are trying to build their brand and see hiring whites as investment, while American companies are hiring for cheap labor. Two different arguments here from immigration point of view.

"So, let's see. Mexicans coming to the US is an invasion, even though they have much lower criminal records than Americans and come to work and build, but Syria needs to accept a hardened American criminal with open hands. What's some wicket as$ logic right there."
The same logic of some Americans who work in Singapore. It is ok for Americans to work in Singapore but not for Singaporeans to work in the US..they told me. Also the same logic of the British and Aussie actresses in Bollywood, India. It is ok for white British actresses to work in India making $1700 a day but not ok for Indians to work in the UK.

Just read this on CNN regarding that Minutemen gang that killed two people:
"Forde's mother said that in a conversation with her daughter the day before she was arrested for the Arizona murders, Shawna Forde told her that she was leaving the country. "She said she was going to Syria because there was no extradition agreement," said Rena Caudle, Forde's mother."

So, let's see. Mexicans coming to the US is an invasion, even though they have much lower criminal records than Americans and come to work and build, but Syria needs to accept a hardened American criminal with open hands. What's some wicket as$ logic right there.

"I just hope innovation will happen from America and create more jobs here. Focus on high skilled immigration is badly needed for betterment of US."
Innovation by US corporations will not be affected as it would be done by them in countries such as Singapore and Australia. But, taxes will not be paid here creating more debt and deficits and California like situation will be played out here over and over again!

"One more thing...it is disgusting that folks like Ron Hira make a big issue of a mere 65,000 visas when about seven times that number of jobs is being lost every month,,,perhaps many of them going to places such as Singapore for good!"
It will be interesting to find out who sponsors Ron Hira's research funding. What visa did his parents come here and how many jobs did they displace? The whole manufacturing base has practically moved to China, software base to India, healthcare is on its way to other countries etc and people are worried about 65000 visas who end creating jobs for people here?
Lot of American companies are more profitable outside than in US. Needless to say where these profits will generate jobs. I just hope innovation will happen from America and create more jobs here. Focus on high skilled immigration is badly needed for betterment of US. When big names like Tom Friedman, Bill Gates are asking for green card to every student graduating from US university, their word holds more value than some academic professor called Hira. It is sad that during the time of recession when US should hold onto its human resource, it is kicking them out by creating tougher immigration policies.

"Last I saw it was 44,900 and only 100 to 200 are being used each week. So much for arguments that H-1Bs are just cheap labor. If that were the case, certainly companies would be firing those expensive American workers and replacing them as quickly as possible with cheap foreign alternatives. Of course, the reality is that H-1B workers are, in fact, very expensive - you pay the prevailing wage, the attorney, thousands in government filing fees, transportation costs, etc. etc. Most employers use H-1Bs when they feel little choice in the matter because Americans are not readily available."
It is far cheaper to move the job abroad to countries such as Singapore than apply for H1B. The country is littered with people who either did not get H1B or were kept waiting after they visited their home country. So much for jobs going to Americans if a foreigner is not given a job! Actually we end up loosing...tax and social security revenues. Why do you think Singapore is recovering from the recession much faster than expected. By next year this time, unemployment there is expected to fall from 4.2% today to 2.9%..and perhaps if jobs keep moving there it may even go lower. Perhaps this is what Grassley and Durbin want...more jobs shipped out of the country with ever widening deficit and debt!

H-1B visa count question.
greg, what would happen to the unused H-1B visas of the current year? ( assuming atleast 15k will still be left by oct), would they carry on to the next years quota, and/or to the Master H-1B quota for FY2011 ?

Also dear brittanicus, without the billions that "immigrant aliens and their famiies" pay into social security and medicare, there would be no future for you. Probably isn't much of consequence at this point, but that's another story altogether.

I hope brittanicus know that without foreign doctors and nurses the "famed" NHS would not exist. They can't produce enough health care workers. Every few years they declare they have enough and tighten things up. And on each occasion they have been forced to reverse after a while.
"but we should not, cannot underwrite immigrant aliens and their families"
I guess "illegal" has been dropped!

More racist drivel from Britannicus. American Patrol and Numbers USA are racist organizations. A country trillions of dollars in debt to other (especially Asian) countries has no sovereignty. It is like a man facing foreclosure but still claiming he owns the home..he does not. US sovereignty exists in the minds of deluded and bigoted individuals such as Britannicus. He can have his country back when the US government repays its debt with interest. Otherwise the foreclosures have come.

With President Obama speeding to towards an immigration reform nightmare by labor day, and orchestrating a health care for all. If the Democrats release a behemoth Amnesty upon us, we will be paying over 2.5 trillion dollars towards just retirement and pensions, as testified by the Heritage Foundation. When these people send billions of dollars out the country in remittances, at the same time leeching billions of dollars from state and federal welfare programs. Most Americans only know about the education, free health care and money spent on housing the criminals. They also have access to food stamps, low income housing and hundreds of other undisclosed benefit programs distributed by each level of government.
As to health care modification? Americans should be able to choose either the private for-profit insurers, that we have always been stuck with? Or we should be able to have the choice of a Universal government-run medical care for the less fortunate. Follow the British system that fell into disarray, after the massive uncontrollable influx of commonwealth and foreign labor forced by European Union mandate. Prior to the immigration--legal and illegal impact it had a very exceptional reputation for looking after its own British/English population.
The American population must send these illegal immigrants home, as the businesses that hire them pay nothing to their upkeep. The burden falls to Americans to feed and support the impoverished 13 to 20 million illegal aliens. If Obama passes a new health care program, they will try to incorporate illegal immigrants in the new plan. I understand a program for all low income Americans, but we should not, cannot underwrite immigrant aliens and their families. Thats why we need to rigidly enforce E-Verify, local Police illegal immigrant arrest (287(g), Real ID Act (National standard for secure driver licences) and any other law. Because non-compliance by some states relating to the Real ID, the authorities are adding a possible amendment called the Pass act , which is less secure. DON'T ALLOW THE POLITICIANS IN WASHINGTON SINK (287(g) or the NO MATCH letter. We must watch every move the lawmakers made and tell them a resounding--NO--to anything that smells of AMNESTY. With the American jobless wake rising it's inconceivable that they would try to enact another AMNESTY. Then the rumors will fly and even more millions will slip from the woodwork, expecting AMNESTY for themselves once inside our sovereign nation.
Keep up the invaluable rumblings in the beltway at 202-224-3121 THAT THE POPULATION IS MAD AND NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE! Learn who your enemy is and who your friends at NUMBERSUSA, JUDICIALWATCH, CAPSWEB, HERITAGE FOUNDATION & AMERICANPATROL
