"Or is Mark Krikorian just putting words on their mouths?"

Dont ever trust a racist organization or racist individual. If AFL-CIO or anyone else released an actual statement, I would like to see it. Furthermore the racist ilk at CIS and FAIR will never agree to an independent commission setting numbers. They have a better chance of advancing their agenda with racists such as Jeff Sessions, Jim DeMint and David Vitter to name just a few..and there are plenty in the House of Reps including the guy who launched a tirade against Michael Jackson, ie., Peter King.

"Politically what this group shows is a consensus is possible on this issue,"

Very promising, specially since it is a bipartisan task force.

A consensus can really be reached if both sides are sincere that they want to resolve the issue. It's just give and take.

Unfortunately, base from the article I do not see that the unions are sincere. Didn't they already said that they agree with putting up a neutral commission to establish immigration levels ?? Or is Mark Krikorian just putting words on their mouths ?

obama to meet congressional leaders ????

Yes, Obama wants to pass CIR and he will in the next few months. Patience please ...

92% success rate. Lets talk about the total number of bills he wanted to get through and got through. He has not been in there for more than 6 months and do you expect it to be 35% CQ??

"What!? Hypocrisy, indeed. I have two words for them: Globalization and Compete !! The world does not belong to them alone."

Remember, these folks are in Singapore..no, they are not concerned about Singaporeans not being hired...it is the Americans not being hired in a foreign land over the locals and other Asians!

For once, I find those stories of women blabbing hillarious. Nothing changed around the world in 200 years, and the best entertainment is still judging other people. The reasons for ripping someone up for unsuitable/strange marriage may be different from 200 years ago, but the gist is still the same - c'mon, it's not like fun to talk about a marriage of two complete equals! Something different - that's what gets people talking, and if you add abundance of free time (due to the lack of gainful employment), you get the result. What do you think those H4 wifes are talking among themselves? Surely, they are not discussing Kafka ;-)
P.S. Just another reason I don't like that H4 are not authorized to work.

"these expats in Singapore are now mad that the corporations are placing the folks who could not get their H1Bs or those who got stuck in India or China during a visit, in Singapore and Hong Kong, instead of hiring Americans for those jobs...you see the hypocrisy"

What!? Hypocrisy, indeed. I have two words for them: Globalization and Compete !! The world does not belong to them alone.

"How can they marry like that is the gossip among the western expat women."

I can think of many reasons. 1)Maybe they really just LOVE the person for who they are regardless of socio-economic background (this maybe hard to explain to them but very simple for the rest of us) 2)Happiness is not all about money 3)You want someone to still be there with you even without your money and is used to a life w/o it 4)Someone who will take care of you when you are old and not able to take care of yourself (and even w/o money - they'll find a way)

That's just some from the top of my head. I don't expect them to understand though.

And welcome back to the blogosphere.

Hi
greg
What is the chances of CIR being introduced this fall?Do you still think that it has chance? As healthcare reform is still on its way without identified timeframe.
I amn't much hopeful happening this year as only handfull of time left.
thanks in advance

And one more thing, Jim..many of these expats in Singapore are now mad that the corporations are placing the folks who could not get their H1Bs or those who got stuck in India or China during a visit, in Singapore and Hong Kong, instead of hiring Americans for those jobs...you see the hypocrisy.

"Very ironic when other nationalities are saying the same thing about the UK system. Guess, they now know how it feels like being treated that way."

The Brits are mad because at least they treat other Anglo-Saxons as equals although they may despise the Asians including some Brits I found working in Singapore..(the biggest gossip around the table at the Borders Bookstore was the issue of a junior executive for a computer corporation from the US marrying his parents maid, and a white Brit Porfessor teaching at a local university, marrying a daughter(although the woman has a Phd and teaches in the US!!) of a local Chinese maid who used to cleans toilets in government offices a decade ago (before her daughter sent money and made her quit the job). How can they marry like that is the gossip among the western expat women.

"Welcome back, George."

Thanks. Always nice to be back in Washington DC, the epicenter, at least for the next six months! Economists here in DC and back in Colorado and Hawaii have assured me that they will address the issue of the impact of skilled immigration on foreign direct investment using US data beginning next month with a paper to be released sometime next year. With the health debate expected to extend till fall, I think they will start debating or at least discussing immigration next year...although action may not happen for another eighteen months and a new congress.

"And look at all these clowns in the UK and NZ..."

Very ironic when other nationalities are saying the same thing about the UK system. Guess, they now know how it feels like being treated that way.

Welcome back, George.

Well hopefully he'll want it soon enough....

And look at all these clowns in the UK and NZ who think that if they kick a foreigner out the jobs will go to a New Zealander...they really live in a ninteenth century world...so, yes, Grassley and Durbin have plenty of company...

Immigration reform is a whole different animal, Obama knows it, thats why its in the back burner, waiting to be exhumed by its own flames.
