Senator Schumer attempted to table the amendment which would permanently reauthorize the E-Verify program and codify the contractor rule (see post below). That effort failed by a 44 to 53 margin and the amendment then passed by voice vote. The underlying bill already had a three year extension for E-Verify.
This is not the end of the story. The House version will likely have different language and then the two chambers must agree in conference on final language. So the fight goes on.
AILA InfoNet reports that Senator Leahy successfully added a secondary amendment to the Sessions' E-verify amendment, making the EB-5 Regional Center program permanent.

More of this "null hypothesis" coming out of government.

There is a flip side you can include this nonsense of E-Verify on CIR as a measure to curve or stop future illegal immigration rather than to do it now, technically if they fix the system it should not be on the enforcement side only. Plus they would have time for this system to give accurate results and not false positives that create more headaches and unintended consequences.

Even if it passes it is not the end of the story. Litigation could block the rule and the fight could last a long time.

Greg,
i don`t understand. To have the CIR Congress need to show that are tough on Illegal immigration, now, if this pass, don`t you think that it will be easier to have the CIR? Meaning we are tough now so we can go ahead with the CIR?
