If there are consequences, CIR loses votes. If there are no consequences, the political reward side goes down relative to the risk which theoretically makes action on CIR even less likely.

"We'll see on Feb 25th. Looks like all the Republicans might be hiding in their basements on that day. Obama has framed it such that if they even show up he'll make an offer they can't refuse, wind up quickly and declare victory on healthcare."
Pres. Obama finally giving in to tort reform and other GOP demands ??
Whatever it is, if the GOP don't show up will surely expose them as a party of no.

Fundamentally, there is a huge vacuum in leadership with everyone either going home or playing it too safe. Just look at the cast: Reid, McConnell, Boehner, Steele, Baucus, Nelson, Grassley etc. So depressing. Even those capable of taking a stand, like McCain, are scared. Way past time Obama stepped in and stepped on some toes, big time!

The Dems, despite goofing up so much, have at least had honest debates on healthcare during the last year. The Reps., like shameless thugs, have stubbornly stuck to their dog-in-the- manger principle. All said and done, if they can't move even on the jobs bill or healthcare, there seems to be very little hope for immigration.

if the Latino vote stay homes, will give the driver seat to Tea Party and Tancredo, again, we are in the same Tafazzi position....

I think the Latino vote will remain frustrated with the democrats, but they will not flock to the republicans specially since the Tea Party people and Tancredo are in the driver seat over there. How ever I think the biggest punishment for the dems inaction will be if the Latino vote stays home, nobody can afford not to get 10 million votes and expect to survive.
As they say "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me"
