And Jack would skirt all the facts presented to him through links! Why? Because his arguments do not stand!

"More people born in U.S. are leaving California than moving to California. Net basis."
So what! More people are also going into Nevada and Utah despite severe drought there. Nevada is more than half desert but it just gained a House seat...and Texas has water problems as well and it gained four seats...and much more people are leaving water rich Michigan and NY.

"So Americans from Ohio and Michigan are not going to California"
More people born in U.S. are leaving California than moving to California. Net basis.

"I think you missed my point or maybe you know that it is irrefutable. Residential demand for water is squeezing industry need for water in California. Population growth in California is on a net basis entirely from immigration. These are facts."
Entirely from immigration? Really? So Americans from Ohio and Michigan are not going to California, not a single one? Where do you think all those former Clevelanders went?
My point is pretty simple, if water shortage was such a big factor as you are trying to present, Cleveland would be growing, and Los Angeles shrinking, immigration or not. Maybe your point is just plain wrong.

And one more thing...Singapore and Hong Kong are more densely populated than California ever will be. Calfironia has water shortage while Singapore and Hong Kong does not. The difference is that California subsidizes water while Singapore and Hong Kong do not. These are the facts!

I think you missed my point or maybe you dont know that it is irrefutable. Declines in population is not helping the Jpanaese economy...without population growth California will look like Japan. California does not need cuts in immigration. Japan needs to increase immigration. These are the facts. Water shortage in California is not due to immigration because of famr subsidies and water susbsidies. Dont insult people's intellignence. It is due to the white American farmers who cannot compete with the rest of the world and want ever increasing subsidies.

and by the way, the vision for America according to Jack, CIS and FAIR...is this what we really want?

I would rather take overcrowded and prosperous Singapore, Hong Kong and definitely the California of today over Belarus or Japan...If Jack likes fewer people he is welcome to leave this country and live in Japan or Belarus.

"I totally agree with George on the redistricting. If I can't vote why include me in the count for allocating Congessional seats. Don't use non immigrants for political gain we are already screwed with the broken immigration system, don't exploit us further."
If they want to do away with birthright citizenship they should not be counting illegals towards redistricting. Arizona will loose at least two more districts if illegals are not counted..and three if legals and illegals are not counted.

"Jack, yes, people are leaving Michigan and Ohio because there is not enough water. Maybe it is time you start thinking."
That is exactly what I heard that people are running from Detroit, Chicago and Cleveland, as well as New York City and Washington DC due to shortage of water. I also heard that people are leaving Belarus, Ukraine and many other parts of the Former Soviet Union due to the shortage of water caused by mass immigration into those countries back in the 1990s!

"American Cities That Are Running Out Of People"
You missed that link about American Cities That Are Running Out Of Water

Water is a limiting resource and the lack of if it can constrain many industries, not just agriculture. Population growth is creating a water dilemma in parts of the country and, like it or not, mass immigration makes the problem worse.

Did AZ shoot itself on the foot? They got one more congressional district instead of two. Illegal immigrants and legal non-citizens pad the congressional districts in southern states...giving more power to racist whites who dominate these states. We really need a constitutional amendment to include only citizens towards redistricting. Then NY, MA, IL and other states will gain seats, while TX, FL, GA and AZ will loose seats!

"Yeah apparently that will be the new republican slogan when speaking against immigration, since "it's all about jobs"."
They have a vision for creating a bigger Belarus in America..literally declining population, a country populated by aging white people and of course a collapsing economy. This is the goal of orgs such as FAIR and CIS. Create another Belarus in America.

Finally, what are the implications of these discussions? Obama does not have to push for any immigration bill. The GOP has the House...they will hang themselves and the scared Hispanics will come running back to Obama. Only thing Obama needs to worry about is the oil prices!

"Louisiana stands to lose clout in Congress, while states that welcome illegal immigrants stand to unfairly benefit from artificially inflated population totals," he said.
But Vitter will not do anything about it as long as counting illegal immigrants helps elect a GOP President (George Bush in 2000) or gets more Republicans elected in congress. I will consider supporting birthright citizenship restrictions if the GOP is willing to amend the constitution to take into consideration only Citizens for re-districting purposes. As it stands now, GOP wants its cake and eat it too. Preventing the so-called "anchor babies" from becoming citizens mean only one thing: racist southern whites will have power as more and more illegal babies are counted towards re-districting but unlike in the past, they wont be allowed to vote! Without counting illegals or legal residents, Florida will have five fewer electoral votes, Texas six fewer, Georgia three fewere, SC one fewer and CA eight fewer...and yes Utah, one fewer..states such as NY, PA, IL, WI and MA will add seats, which if it were the case would have helped elect Al Gore as President in 2000!

" Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), an immigration hard-liner.
“If he is not willing to do it — there is a lot of public support for reducing legal immigration — he is going to find he will be pressured on that issue,” said Steven Camarota, director of research for the Center for Immigration Studies.
Smith’s early emphasis on jobs flows from the House Republican leadership. Michael Steel, spokesman for incoming House Speaker John Boehner, said Republicans “heard — loudly and clearly — that the biggest issue right now is jobs. So I imagine that will be our priority in a number of issue areas.”"

None of these guys want to pen themselves up for attacks in the primary season...it's pure political play. In the primaries they will fight for the nomination to the far right who ever wins then will make a pitch to try to get up the that 40% of the hispanic vote that George W won to have a fighting chance against Obama. Some of them may actually be making calculations to try to win without courting hispanics, it will be hard to do, specially since the African American vote will come out and stand with the president. The republicans may also be banking that hispanics are soo disappointed at the dems that may just stay home and give them a fighting chance.

"Lamar Smith Goes Moderate on Immigration"
That is good news. I think non-controversial bills like visa recapture where we don't add visas but just recycle unused ones that should have been given but not due to the fault of the inefficiency of the system may have a chance.
Not surprised he want's E-verify. I think that is good starting point for compromise and to get smaller bills in.

Greg,
They are focusing on primaries for now, we can expect them wooing Hispanic and changing tones after the nomination is settled but I hope Hispanic and all immigrant voters realize it sooner. Having said this i am equally dissappointed with dems and President Obama for their lip service but I appauld Sen. Reid's effort for Dream Act although i believe he could have achieved much more it the leadership has got their act together.
We will see how forcefully President Obama will come out for immigration reform in his SOTU, will their be same passen for immigration as he showed for HCR, that os yet to come and believe help all immigrant friendly voters give a clear chioce for 2012.
Merry Christmas and a happy new year to all.
Hope 2011 will be very productive year for immigrants. Can we have Lame Duck sesdion for the entire 2011?

One more thing..Obama does not have to worry about the Hispanic vote and he will not loose DC, NY, MD, MA, VT, RI, IL, CA, WA, OR or HI..if he wins those states, he is nearly half way there! But, most important I am certain in order to please the tea partiers who desparately want to keep this country majority white, the GOP will antagonize the Hispanics...and they are just warming up!
